As a concerned citizen of Papua New Guinea, deeply troubled by the increasing involvement of foreign experts, particularly from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, in securing major projects in critical sectors such as telecommunications, energy, construction, logistics, accountant, business advisory and many more within our country. This situation, which continues to evolve with little to no intervention, poses significant risks to the development of Papua New Guinean companies, the empowerment of our workforce, and the long-term growth of our local economy. While international cooperation and expertise can sometimes provide benefits to our economy, the manner in which these foreign firms dominate and secure major projects raises several questions about the fairness of these arrangements and the exclusion of our local talent. It is crucial for the Papua New Guinea Government to address this growing concern by conducting serious investigations and making the necessary changes to ensure that local businesses and citizens are prioritized in our nation's economic progress.

Rohingya refugees contribute to Malaysia's economy primarily through their labor in various informal sectors such as construction, agriculture, and manufacturing. Despite their lack of legal status and the challenges they face, many Rohingya find work in low-paying, labor-intensive jobs that are often shunned by local workers. Their willingness to undertake these jobs helps fill labor shortages and supports industries critical to Malaysia's economic growth. However, because they are not officially recognized as refugees and lack legal work permits, they often work in the informal economy. This means that their contributions are not always reflected in official statistics, and they do not benefit from labor protections or rights enjoyed by formal sector employees. As for taxes, since Rohingya refugees primarily work in the informal economy, they are unlikely to pay income tax directly. However, they still contribute indirectly through consumption taxes, such as the Goods and Services Tax (SST), on the goods and services they purchase. This indirect contribution helps support public finances in Malaysia. Overall, while their contributions may not be fully acknowledged or quantified due to their informal status, Rohingya refugees play a crucial role in sustaining certain sectors of Malaysia's economy through their labor and consumption. Therefore we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you and for your kindness and support towards Rohingya refugee community. Thank you for extending your hand of friendship and for your continued efforts in advocating for the well being. #Rohingya #Malaysia #refugees #un #humanright

Having lived in Papua New Guinea as a Filipino expat for two years, I find myself faced with uncertainty regarding the future of my employment here for the first time, due to the challenges confronting the nation where the business operates. Currently, Papua New Guinea is grappling with multiple crises, notably in peace and order as well as a severe fuel shortage. This fuel crisis, persisting since my arrival in 2022, has now escalated to its most critical point yet. The root of this issue lies in a cascading series of events: the primary fuel supplier faces production halts due to a lack of raw materials, a consequence of their inability to secure these materials due to shortage of foreign exchange payments. This has led to widespread gas station shutdowns, flight cancellations, and the rationing of fuel supplies, significantly impacting businesses dependent on fuel, such as those in the wholesale, power, and transportation sectors. As a result, we can anticipate a surge in fuel prices due to the scarcity, which in turn will adversely affect the net profits of companies, potentially leading to a freeze on employees' bonuses and benefits. Moreover, this situation could dampen the morale of local entrepreneurs, prompting them to reconsider the viability of conducting business in Papua New Guinea. Additionally, the peace and order situation has deteriorated, with January witnessing extensive riots and mass looting. While it's challenging to assign blame, it's clear that both the government and its citizens must come together to address these issues effectively. It is my hope that the government will take decisive action to tackle these challenges at their root, moving beyond the blame game, implementing strategies for improvement, and prioritizing the well-being of its people, especially the children. My heart goes out to the young ones here; I cannot stand the thought of them growing up in a society without law and order. As an expatriate, my contribution may be limited to fostering hope, imparting knowledge to local staff, and striving to be the best version of myself.

Expats in Phnom Penh: A Call to Elevate Our Impact 🌏✨ In the vibrant heart of Cambodia, expats wield the power to shape the future. Our knowledge and experience are the keys to unlocking Cambodia's next level of economic development. Yet, a trend emerges that we cannot ignore. A fraction of our community seems to forget the standard of excellence that brought us here. Missed messages, delayed responses, unmet expectations, and subpar work quality are more than just minor inconveniences; they cast long shadows on our collective contributions. It's not a universal truth, but it's a noticeable pattern. The pedestal we're placed on by locals isn't just for standing; it's a platform to elevate from. The value we add to Cambodia should be tangible, transformative, and above all, positive. Our presence here is not just an opportunity for personal or professional growth but a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the nation that welcomes us. If our aim isn't to enrich this country, then we must question our purpose here. The development of Cambodia and the reputation of expats rest in our hands. Let's not merely occupy space; let's be catalysts for excellence. It's time to step up our game. For Cambodia, for us, and for the future. #ExpatsInCambodia #ProfessionalExcellence #ImpactfulLiving

Today's Expository!!!! In Nigeria, the expatriate quota system is a regulatory framework set up by the Nigerian government to control the employment of foreign nationals. This system is designed to ensure that expatriate employment is balanced with the need to provide job opportunities for Nigerians while also addressing the need for skilled labour that may not be readily available locally. In conclusion, the expatriate quota system aims to balance the benefits of foreign expertise with the development of local talent and job creation for Nigerian citizens. It also serves as a tool for the government to regulate the labour market and ensure the country benefits from the knowledge and skills brought in by expatriates. Tʜᴇ Pᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ 🇰🇭 Here's the reason that comes first when we ask visitors the reason they will remember Cambodia for, and the reason why they would return. Not the temples or our paradisiac islands, neither our culinary traditions, but Oᴜʀ Pᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ. And when corporates or entrepreneurs ask me why they should enter or invest in Cambodia, then my answer is the same, and I would even add Oᴜʀ Yᴏᴜɴɢ Pᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ. Cambodia is driven by a very young, yet very agile workforce that has nothing to envy from more developed markets. Our Cambodian Gen Z is willing to work hard, to learn hard, and is committed to contribute to Cambodia next development. With a large majority of our coworkers below 25, this is why at Confluences, and our parent companies, we are keeping investing in Oᴜʀ Pᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ, no matter what. And this is why we are fast-developing following the very same path of the country itself. #Cambodia #GenZ #Development #HumanResources
