"Get out of the board room and into the war room" Last month, leaders gathered at the Forbes Iconoclast Summit to discuss the future of business and share disruptive ideas. During the event our Co-Founder, Tracy B., shared more about Kanbrick's approach to building great businesses over the long-term. She also shared the inspiration behind creating the Kanbrick Community and how her personal experience as a CEO highlighted how lonely building a midsize business can be. We created the Kanbrick Community to be the resource and support network that we wish we had while leading businesses. If you are a CEO, owner, or founder, and this resonates with you, we encourage you to learn more about the Community and how it can help you take your business to the next level. Do you connect better with Aristotle or Star Trek or maybe you carve out your own path when it comes to #communication? I strongly believe in the KISS principle – Keep It Simple Superstar ™ 😁 ! Another famous Hellene, Ari as I like to call him, mentioned that peeps connect with speech when it contains a wonderful balance of 3 essentials: ethos (credibility and evidence), pathos (storytelling and emotions), and logos (logic and reason). This creates the best probability of creating a connection with them the audience! Can’t connect with Aristotle – how about #StarTrek, where Cpt. Kirk becomes pathos, Bones becomes ethos, and Spock is of course…. logos. Better to adjust to modern day pitches in a simplified way? Do you vibe more with Aristotle or Star Trek? Or maybe you’ve got your own unique style when it comes to pitching a business proposal? Our group believes that the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Superstar™ 😁, keeps things simple and fun for everyone! Our famous pal Aristotle also suggested the following trio to really connect with an audience by mixing: ethos (credibility and evidence), pathos (storytelling and emotions), and logos (logic and reason). You can also think of Star Trek if you’re more into the current century where: Captain Kirk is all about evidence, Bones brings the storytelling and emotions and guess what - Spock nails the logic! Either way, want to learn how to pitch like a pro in today’s world? Join us on June 13th to discover the secret sauce for delivering a killer pitch!

“How do I get my board on board?” In the third post of our latest series, ‘Founders' Toughest Questions’ our investment team distills guidance to founders working through evolving board dynamics. We explore the following scenarios: 1. Company headwinds 2. Decelerated growth 3. Strategy pivot As active builders (not passive backers), our goal with this series is to showcase and address some of the thorniest challenges founders face over the course of their company-building journey. Hopefully, by shedding light on these versus letting them exist in the dark, we can help guide more founders through tougher topics.

One of my favorite sessions at Wharton ETA Club Summit this past month was "Riches in the Niches" featuring Jason Vahn, Saumil Jariwala, Kevin Oxendine, Caroline Chapdelaine, and Kurt Leedy. My 3 Biggest Takeaways: 🚒 Industry focused, niched searches end up closing 90% of the time (compared to broker-lead spray and pray search). 🚀 This approach also results in a lower multiple transaction. 💰 If your TAM is <$100m, you'll have a hard time exiting. Play in the $500m to $1B range for best results.
