Some exciting news for financial professionals! In part, he writes, "The exciting news for educators is that, along with a certain amount of worry, the brave new world of #AI may provide some truly great teaching tools. That might include a series of carefully constructed questions designed to prompt students to think through their assumptions and craft compelling arguments - an AI version of the Socratic method. Building this kind of systematic, logical thinking is particularly useful for the #LSAT because of its emphasis on logic rather than acquired knowledge." Prioritizing student success is a multifaceted effort. To be done successfully, it requires a holistic focus on helping all students flourish both in their education and beyond to post-graduation. New York University, the nation’s largest private research university, is at the forefront of this effort to remove barriers and propel students to the next phase of their educational and career journey. In a recent webinar, Dr. Mark Siegal, NYU's vice provost for undergraduate academic affairs, and Kim Canning, Kaplan's vice president of university partnerships, joined moderator Yvonne Cowser Yancy, Kaplan’s Chief People Officer, for a discussion of how NYU approaches the challenge of advancing the academic success of all of its students. "Much of this work in student success is individual to individual. There are a lot of on-the-ground conversations with faculty or advising moments with students. In the latest issue of Kaplan's Bold Learning newsletter: The shift towards skills-based #hiring has garnered attention, with efforts like Opportunity@Work’s “Tear the Paper Ceiling” campaign leading the way. However, despite the momentum, degrees still play a critical role in hiring decisions, according to research by The Burning Glass Institute. In this thought piece, Kaplan's Poonum Sidhu, vice president, enterprise learning solutions, and Richard Burbank, executive director, national accounts, argue that the focus shouldn’t be on choosing between degrees and skills, but on hiring for qualities like intellectual curiosity, continuous learning, and the ability to drive business growth. "Much as new power sources fueled the Industrial Revolution and new #technology fueled the age of the Internet, #artificialintelligence is poised to transform today’s economy. This means companies urgently need to take a new approach to hiring for talent and empowering employees to develop the skills they need," they write. Also: According to a recent Salesforce survey, workers worldwide trust #AI for nearly half of their tasks. The research highlights a growing acceptance of the fast growing technology, with a strong emphasis on the need for human involvement to build trust and expertise. To thrive, learners must navigate this information tsunami by developing critical skills in curation, authentication, and interpretation. He adds, "In an information-rich age, the role of teacher may seem less important than it used to be. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Teachers must take the lead by using their subject expertise to become trusted curators of knowledge." Also: There's some good news on the #highereducation landscape: According to National Student Clearinghouse, persistence rates among first-time college students hit a decade high at 76.5%, with students returning to any institution for their second year.
