It's not all about the curriculum. So, what is it about? It's about the relationships we build, not only between us and the students but also within the classroom itself. The friends they make and the positive atmosphere we foster create lasting memories. This doesn't mean you shouldn't focus on teaching the lessons. Instead, consider how you can enhance your classroom experience beyond the curriculum. By creating a significant, positive impact, students are more likely to remember the lessons. Through positive experiences, they indirectly absorb and retain what you teach because they are more engaged and focused on your words.

At our October Elementary Assistant Principal's Leadership Academy, we had the pleasure of being a "student" of our district's ELA staff as they modeled teaching fourth grade writing standards. Over the course of about 20 to 30 minutes, one of our ELA Content Leads walked us through an entire lesson on writing. She used multiple strategies that were rooted in cognitive learning as well as social emotional elements. Observing an expert modeling what to expect from an instructional standpoint and being able to take that experience back to my building and imagine how to inspire our teachers towards that end was such a refreshing leadership moment. Experiencing strong instructional teaching firsthand made one thing very apparent - we need strong, confident teachers who are willing (read: happy) to stay in the classroom. We can put together checklists, share best practices, and use expensive curricula but the value of a motivated teacher who takes pride in her craft and believes in what she is teaching is priceless. What was also apparent was the amount of emotional intelligence and energy it took to deliver a lesson in a meaningful way. If we want to progress in education, we not only need to focus on the needs of the students, but also how to cultivate the heart of a true teacher. #GSUEdLead

I like this quote about a being a teacher- "The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don't tell you what to see." — unknown This quote highlights the importance of guidance and empowerment in teaching. A good teacher encourages students to explore, discover, and think critically, rather than simply providing answers. They help students develop their own perspectives and insights, fostering a deeper understanding and love of learning.

When I was given a role to support a group of people, first thing that came into my mind is, "How do I lead people who are expert in their field than me?" Decided to start with, sharing my effective practices! I strongly believe that having a lesson plan and following the scope and sequence is one of the most important step in having an effective teaching. And I know with the hundreds of things that teachers has to deal with, it can get overwhelming and we tend to miss some things that we need to be doing. So a week ago, I handed my team a folder, consisting of: - their timetable - cover monitoring sheet - summary of their curriculum - list of SEN students - and my Tasks Monitoring checklist with a school weekly schedule I am almost done summarising all other subjects curriculum so it will be easier for my team to check how can they integrate it in their lessons. NO, they are not required to use it. If they have a better way of doing things, I'm all for it. If it can help them, then it served its purpose. PS: This practice was adapted from my previous school. All teachers during observations must have this folder, with their LP's and classlists and all documents thats needed in your daily teaching. I thought, why not use it everyday not just during observations. 😊

Inspirational Teacher Quote 3 "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." - William Arthur Ward Becoming an exceptional teacher stems from being an excellent student. It's essential to have the eagerness to understand your students. Treat your students as your case studies. Instead of just lecturing and providing information, focus on listening and observing. If you're not gaining knowledge from your students, you're limiting your growth potential to become a truly outstanding teacher. Engage in active listening, empathize, and immerse yourself in moments of greatness. The journey to becoming a great teacher is an ongoing experience, validated by how students respond to you. You transcend the role of a mere teacher; you become a facilitator of greatness.
