In the latest issue of Kaplan's Bold Learning newsletter, just out today: As countries across the globe grapple with policy changes affecting #internationalstudents — from visa processing to work permits — #collegesanduniversities face a critical moment. Insightful analysis from Hannah Drover, executive director, Kaplan International Pathways, suggests the current challenges in #Canada mirror those faced by other major destination countries and represent an opportunity for positive change. Also: During the Great Resignation of 2021-2022, millions left their jobs, seeking better pay, flexibility, and fulfillment. While job-hopping has slowed due to a softer market, many employees now feel stuck, leading to the "Great Detachment." Check out this infographic, which illustrates results from a recent Gallup survey on overall job satisfaction and intent to leave. Researchers also offer some ideas on how businesses can reverse this troubling tide. https://lnkd.in/eUPsDAkb #highereducation #highered #internationaleducation #workforcedevelopment

Humanity is in demand. Fascinating research published by the Labour Market Information Council (LMIC) | Conseil de l'information sur le marché du travail (CIMT) about the top skills - "Social-emotional (or soft) skills account for nine of the 10 most frequently requested skills". The other one is Customer Service which is categorized as an occupational skill - one might argue that a lot of social-emotional skills are required. This is in line with the research from the World Economic Forum that highlights how "leadership and social influence, curiosity and lifelong learning, systems thinking, talent management, and motivation and self-awareness solidify their importance, emphasizing the continued relevance of human-centric skills amid rapid technological advances." Thanks Joseph Fuller for sharing that you have launched the 2024 Harvard Business School #AmericanOpportunityIndex focusing on professionals and the companies that best support them - the necessary back bone of a thriving economy. From Joseph’s post: “Too little attention is paid to workers who constitute 40%+ of the workforce-- employed people without college degree … How do we create more opportunities for them? How can they be allowed to distinguish between jobs/employers who are superficially attractive and those that offer good prospects for compensation growth and the acquisition of skills that have value in the labor market? How do we ensure they get opportunities to gain the skills that will allow them to thrive in the future?” PS: this post is #notaboutAI #workforce #futureofwork
