We were assigned a task. To spruce up the third level of ISCA House. Where it housed the Standard Chartered Accountant Qualification (SCAQ) Academy. This is where the next generation of business leaders are being nurtured. This is where they learn that accountancy is not a boring job. This is where they understand that they are the backbone of the economy. This is where they realise that financial literacy is the most powerful language one could possess. What everyone else see are mere numbers. But Chartered Accountants see colours, vibrancy and angles of possibilities. They are the Data Analysts. Forensic Accountants. Chief Sustainability Officers. They are the Financial Strategists to any businesses like yours and mine. Our role, was to hopefully contribute a part in uplifting the accountancy industry. It is not all black-and-white. I work a lot with UNIs and its students in many countries and each has its own focus and vision of how higher and/or professional education has to look like. I was thinking about how to shorten my long presentation on why UNIs can benefit from working with us and came to such three convincing arguments. 🌟 Reflecting on a dynamic panel discussion at the BNP Paribas CIB with ACCA member Jon Degnen FCCA and trainees: Aleksandra Majewska and Badar Hayat! It was an insightful session where I had the privilege to moderate and engage with finance professionals on their ACCA journey. Here are some key takeaways from our discussion: 🔍 Finding Motivation to Start ACCA: We explored the origins of motivation with our panellists, uncovering personal stories and aspirations that ignited their pursuit of ACCA. 📚 Preparing for Exams: Valuable advice was shared on effective exam preparation strategies, emphasizing consistency, practice, and utilizing available resources optimally. 🧠 Exam Tips & Techniques: Our panellists disclosed practical tips and techniques for navigating ACCA exams, from time management to tackling complex scenarios efficiently. 🤝 Beyond Knowledge: The ACCA offers more than technical expertise. [UM BAcc - Final Semester Result] 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴. 𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦. Time flies so fast, and last week I received my final academic result. Graduating from Universiti Malaya with a CGPA of 3.99, along with completing the ACCA, might seem extraordinary to some. My academic journey has been marked by some significant achievements, including: - ACCA Global Prizewinner: Highest mark in both Malaysia and globally in the June 2024 sitting for Strategic Business Leader (SBL - INT). - ACCA Prizewinner: Highest mark in Malaysia and globally ranked No. 2 in the December 2023 sitting for Advanced Taxation (ATX-MYS). - ICAEW Malaysia Strategic Credits Awards 2023 & 2024: First place in Malaysia for Audit and Assurance (2023 exam sitting) and first place in Malaysia for Business and Corporate Tax (2022 exam sitting). However, little do people know that the reality behind these achievements involves countless sleepless nights and sacrifices throughout my journey at UM. You might wonder what motivated me to keep pushing myself. For me, it's my family. Coming from a B40 family, I always believed that the way to climb the social hierarchy and improve my family's living status is through education. It's the best thing I can do at this stage of my life. But, does your university CGPA define who you are in the future? The answer definitely is a NO. In our lives, there are many important things matter, such as our family, health, friends, and more. Soooo, WAKE UP, my friends. Don’t get too addicted to your CGPA that you forget who you are, why you are attending university, and your own life purpose.
