It's Maternal Health Awareness Day, and we must acknowledge that not all regions have equal access to maternal care. In fact, some areas are considered "maternity care deserts." To combat this, we need adequate funding, effective staff training, and policy reforms. Let's come together to make sure that every mother has access to the care she deserves. #maternitycare #publichealth #policyreform #MaternalHealthAwarenessDay

Maternal care is a national health crisis in the United States warranting increased focus on improving quality, safety and cost of care for mothers and infants. Premier consistently looks for ways to collaborate with hospitals and health systems to improve quality, safety and cost of care for mothers and infants. "Every day across the U.S., the healthcare community has an opportunity to positively impact the lives of mothers, babies, families and communities. Redesigning our care processes to achieve health that is inclusive of behavioral, physical and social needs is the work that our Premier Perinatal Improvement Collaborative focuses on with committed colleagues across the U.S. It takes all of us, every day, to move forward together." - Sue Leavitt Gullo, Principal, Women and Infants Service Line, Premier Inc. Alarming racial disparities continue to persist in maternal health outcomes, and some states are addressing this issue by introducing legislation mandating implicit bias training to help identify and mitigate unconscious prejudices and improve communication, trust, and culturally competent care for Black mothers among healthcare providers. As the Black maternal mortality crisis continues, these trainings are crucial initial steps to ensure equitable maternal health experiences and improved outcomes for Black mothers everywhere.

Today is #MaternalHealthAwarenessDay, a moment to shine a spotlight on a critical issue that demands our attention - the state of Black maternal health in the United States. As mentioned in my most recent blog at the AHA, "Addressing the complex and multifaceted challenges to Black maternal health in the U.S. requires a comprehensive approach that involves not only improvements within the health care system but also broader societal changes to tackle systemic inequalities and promote health equity for all communities." Let's commit to working towards a healthier, more equitable future for all mothers. #blackmaternalhealth #maternalhealth https://lnkd.in/enp-iQ6t.

💡 New research by D-tree and Harvard about successful ways to reach new mothers to ensure they get the care they need. Equitable healthcare delivery is crucial in improving the health and well-being of mothers and babies. The study looked at nearly 40,000 new mothers enrolled in what today is Jamii ni Afya highlighted that no matter the woman’s socioeconomic background, the mothers received equal care from community health workers. This is a significant achievement in health equity, ensuring that lower-income or less-educated mothers receive the same level of care as their counterparts and confirms that digitally-supported community health worker programs like Jamii ni Afya can provide quality postpartum care to women across different socioeconomic statuses.
