PSA: Transitioning from the military is hard. Please don't make it harder. If you are applying for a SkillBridge internship, job, or school, please treat every contact you make like you are contacting your commander. As SkillBridge providers (and also retired E-9s), it pains us to see some of the emails we receive. If your Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, or Guardians are transitioning, PLEASE talk to them. Offer to help them! Transitioning is hard! If you are still in, it will be hard when you do it. We desperately want to help transitioning service members, but we need them to have some skin in the game. If they cannot take the time to write a basic email with proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, it is hard for us to send them to our partner organizations in good faith.
Commenting and reposting. Attention to details and the little things make all the difference when it comes to effective communication.
As a SkillBridge program manager....AMEN!

7moAmen! I’ve seen too many transitioning veterans not take the time to make great first impressions. There is no HRC or assignment manager that will ensure you have a slot when you retire :).
