It’s been a whirlwind year, but think about how you can bring a little festivity into the office. It doesn’t have to be a big whole thing because that can be a little much, right? But something to show the team you appreciate them and the hard work that they’ve put in over the last year would be a great way to round out the year. And do the same for clients! Small tokens of gratitude (though maybe not the standard desk calendar; we’ve had enough of those) are great ways to show how much you cherish their business. Happy holidays! #holidays #business #ClientRelationships #morale #BusinessTips

I love national holidays - religious and secular alike! It's so important for us, with all our unique backgrounds and cultures, to have these shared moments of celebration together. Something we all know: taking a break to rest and recharge is powerful. But you know what's even better? When it’s a real break because there's zero emails or messages to worry about because everyone is taking that break together! Don't underestimate what happens when a company gives everyone time off at once - a company holiday as it were. Having the whole office step away, no expectations, everything on pause... it's magical. The best part? Unlike coming back from a solo vacation where projects have marched on without you, nothing moves forward during these collective breaks. No catching up needed - everyone starts fresh together! At B&H, one of the best things is their twice-yearly company breaks. During Covid - some bigger firms caught on, rolling out week-long winter and summer breaks during the last week of the year and added the week of July 4th. They've seen just how transformative these collective pauses can be for the entire company. #companyholiday #theholidays #restandrefresh #recharge #takeabreak

Its that time of year when we take time out of work to head off on holiday. Holidays are important, we are told, to reset, destress, and replenish the energy banks. It is also an important time to step back and think whether our lives and careers are on track for where we want them to be. As well as time relaxing with family, holidays are a great time to step away from the next task or to do list, to think about what our dreams and aspirations are and whether we are on track to achieve them. And maybe think about the actions that will bring them closer or make them more achievable. Since technology facilitated it, I have always been one to check in on my work Inbox for maybe 10-15minutes in a day, to make sure I know what will need to be done when I return from holiday or occasionally intervene to nudge something back on track during the holiday. I will have covered any crises or important things that require urgent attention but I will equally know what my first days back in the office will mean. It does mean that you are never entirely switched off from the office but you don't walk into a crisis or one that could have been averted if an earlier intervention hadn't been missed. I envy those who switch their laptop and phone off, not to be rebooted until they are back in the office and the holiday is over. I guess skiing is the closest I get. Its not possible to check emails on the go and in my case the attention needed to stay upright pushes work firmly out of my mind. But for me, the risk of being completely swamped on the first days back in the office would mean that the holiday vibe and those good intentions formed on holiday would be completely put to one side. The danger being that they would remain to the side until the next holiday and all those good intentions would be lost for another year. What are your tips for the first week back in the office? #HolidayMode

I went from rarely unplugging to multiple vacations a year And let me tell you, I'll never go back! But for years, I was so afraid to unplug. So even when I was on vacation, I was on Slack and email constantly. I was rarely fully present. If this sounds familiar, I get it. I see you. It can feel as though priorities are never ending and there's never a good time to take a vacation. So, here are 5 things I learned in the last 20 years that I hope will make you think: 1. No one at work notices when you spend your whole vacation working. Seriously. And even if they do, it's soon forgotten. 2. Same goes for mat leave. If you choose to cut it short (I'm mostly thinking of my Euro and Canadian ladies here), no one will really remember long term. So take the time you want. 3. The people who will remember you working that whole vacation? Your family. And guess what? They are the ones who care more about you than anyone in the world. And they'll never lay you off. 4. People who are rested and who take breaks and vacations are more focused, creative, and productive. Believe it or not, showing up as the best version of yourself at work is going to be much easier if you take breaks. 5. Delegating to your team not only frees up time for you, it also allows them to rise to the occasion and gain visibility and recognition. I just got back from a great trip to NYC and have my next 3 trips planned already. Anyone else? ✌️💜 Follow me Katy McFee for more posts on women in leadership #takeabreak #womenleadership

📅 Why are most Holidays in the USA on Mondays? Have you ever wondered why so many holidays in the United States are celebrated on #Mondays? It’s a fascinating aspect of American culture that has both historical and practical roots. 🔹 Historical Background: The tradition of celebrating holidays on Mondays began with the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, signed into law in 1968 and taking effect in 1971. This legislation moved the observance of several federal holidays to Mondays, creating more three-day weekends for the nation’s workforce. 🔹 Economic Benefits: One of the main reasons for this change was economic. By creating long weekends, the government aimed to boost domestic travel and tourism, encouraging people to spend more time and money on leisure activities. This, in turn, helps local economies and industries such as hospitality, travel, and retail. 🔹 Work-Life Balance: From a work-life balance perspective, having holidays on Mondays helps reduce employee burnout and increases job satisfaction. Long weekends provide a much-needed break, allowing workers to rest, spend time with family and friends, and return to work refreshed and more productive. 🔹 Consistency: Having holidays on a consistent day of the week also makes planning easier for both employers and employees. It simplifies scheduling and helps avoid mid-week disruptions, ensuring smoother operations for businesses. Today, #Monday, is #LaborDay in the #USA, a #federalholiday celebrating the contributions of workers. It’s a perfect example of the benefits of Monday holidays, providing an #extendedweekend for millions of Americans. In summary, the #tradition of observing holidays on Mondays in the USA is a blend of historical decisions, economic strategy, and efforts to enhance work-life balance. It’s a great example of how thoughtful policy-making can positively impact both individuals and the broader economy. 💼 How do you feel about Monday holidays? A few years back, I was criticized for taking too many vacations instead of focusing on business growth. However, I realized that the initial reason for starting my business was to have the freedom to take holidays whenever I pleased. After 12 years, I've discovered that even short vacations benefit my business. I return rejuvenated, motivated, full of fresh ideas, and ready to take action, leading to peak productivity in the subsequent 4-6 weeks. Now, I aim to take a vacation every three months, regardless of whether I feel I need it. Staying connected while away and having a reliable team to manage the business is vital. There's no one-size-fits-all solution; the key is to identify what works best for you and prioritize productivity. #Vacation #Productivity #BusinessGrowth

𝗜𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀? 𝗕𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁 – 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗕𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 . . 𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸? 🤥 We all know that productivity during the holidays isn’t exactly on fire. Employees are juggling travel, family, shopping, and everything in between. For many, it’s just about counting down the minutes until the festivities begin. So, for those non-essential businesses - have you thought about shutting down for the holidays? Giving employees the time to truly unplug can show you value them as people, not just as workers. Sure, there is a cost to it, but it can also be a big investment in your team’s well-being and morale. #holidays #openforbusiness #mentalhealth #culture #401ksrock https://lnkd.in/gJNt89_X
