Brass Roots Food had a wild end of 2023 and there was one big learning: sometimes small and nimble manufacturing partners are the way to go. Context is that we had our largest retail customer yet needing product by first week in Jan for a national launch We had imported a large shipment of sacha inchi which arrived mid December (as early as feasibly possible)… BUT that didn’t leave us much time We’d just onboarded with a new co-manufacturer with the necessary equipment to run grab & go size at scale The KEY here is that we chose our co-man based on their clear interest in prioritizing us and working with us in the long run They’d shown signs of this by purchasing custom equipment for us, making clear efforts to get in person meetings, reserving time for us on their line to make our important retailer launch happen, and being flexible with us on terms As it turns out, we had faulty packaging that caused us to lose an additional week of time As a result, our manufacturer worked during the holidays - including CHRISTMAS DAY - to get our product produced in time We got everything to our customer DCs this week, in time for launch Moral of the story - it’s not necessarily the biggest co-mans that are best. Sometimes small, nimble, and committed is the way to go And make sure communication is early, constant and clear #cpg #manufacturing #operations

What percentage of wine is shipped in bulk? It varies by country and can fluctuate year by year, however, on a global scale, it's estimated that 35-40% of wine exports are shipped in bulk. This method is often used because it reduces shipping costs and allows for bottling in the destination country, which can be more cost-effective. Surprised? Flexitanks are an ideal solution for bulk wine exports. With Flexitanks, shippers achieve faster loading times, an increase in container utilization, and greater margins on every shipment. Flexitank bladders are made of 100% virgin film which is a dependable, clean surface, so product quality is preserved and there’s no risk of cross contamination, and they have a multi-layer protective lining and rugged outer layer that can hold up to 24,000 liters per shipment. Flexitanks fit into standard shipping containers, 20’ and 40’ dry, and refrigerated (reefer) units. Along with wine, fruit and vegetable juices are also conveniently transported in large quantities at the right temperature in refrigerated (reefer) containers. HOW OBVIOUS WAS THIS? Back in the 80s we decided to have a go at beer. A 330ml bottle, 3.5% ABV and a refreshing blend of white wine, sparkling water and fresh orange juice. If you didn't like beer but fancied a long, refreshing, quaffable drink, St Leger was for you. Over the last 40 years it has spawned loads of similar drinks: the coolers in the US, Australian Two Dogs, the incredibly successful Smirnoff Ice, and more recently, White Claw and the Hard Selzers. They all started from the same .basic idea. It's a market that keeps on reinventing itself. We never gave St Leger a category designation. That way we thought it would be harder to copy. The late, great Howard Waller did the graphics, the poster being based on a cigar box design. I think he did it by hand. I remember sampling St Leger to guys in my cricket team. One said to me : "Did you get paid for that?" "Sure", I replied "why do you ask?" "Because it's so f*****g obvious!" he replied. I loved that. Great ideas should be incredibly easy to understand. Obvious plays! For more ideas like that, many successful ones, others not so, check out my book on https://lnkd.in/eyRzmuK. #creativity #marketing #innovation #ideas #drinksbusiness
