The final report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families, conducted by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (now known as the Australian Human Rights Commission), was titled “Bringing Them Home” and was released on April 5, 1997. Have we remembered? How many of the recommendations have been implemented? How much have we been able to heal? Whenever we are delivering Cultural Awareness, we share about the impacts of the Stolen generation and how those impacts are still felt today. If it’s impacting us still today, it’s not in the past. The children considered how to engage in local decision-making processes, and what this should look and feel like in their everyday lives. Find out more here ➡ https://lnkd.in/d4kPzUtf

Super interesting course and sorely needed in the contexts we see around the globe.
Tomorrow, we will be officially launching the new child rights module we developed with our partner Save the Children International at the Delegation of the European Union to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva in partnership with the Belgium Mission in Geneva! This online course aims to increase the capacity of justice and human rights experts to integrate a child rights sensitive approach in their accountability work. If you haven't taken the course yet, take some time to go through it now! 👉 https://lnkd.in/ecfwKus2

Today, on National Sorry Day, we honour the resilience and courage of Stolen Generations Survivors who were forcibly removed as children from their families and communities. Their strength in the face of adversity is truly inspiring. As we mark this day, let's consider how we can each contribute to Australia's journey towards reconciliation: 1️⃣ Read about the history: Do some research and uncover heartbreaking tales of Indigenous children who were forcefully taken from their families, enduring traumatic experiences in foster homes and institutions. Knowledge empowers us to build empathy and deepen our understanding of their historical struggles. 2️⃣ Celebrate Indigenous Australians: Engage with local events, support Indigenous artists, and celebrate the contributions of Indigenous communities. By doing so, we honour their vibrant cultures and promote a more inclusive society. 3️⃣ Speak up against discriminatory laws: While progress has been made, discriminatory laws still exist. Use your voice to speak up about unjust policies, engage in conversations, and support organisations advocating for legal reforms. Let's work together to break down those systematic barriers and rewrite the script for equality. Read up more on this via the official website: https://lnkd.in/gq3hV__d

Launch of ‘Writing Constitutions: Volume 2 Fundamental Rights last night by Wolfgang Babeck of Hall & Wilcox was of particular interest for Republicans like myself, interested in Constitutional renewal and full Australian independence. Wolfgang’s texts analyse over 70 Constitutions around the world regarding governance in Volume 1, and Fundamental Rights in Volume 2. We discussed the importance of the protection for basic rights and how these have been brought to life around the world. Children’s rights, women’s rights, right to housing, food, protest, a free press, express rather than implied freedom of speech. We can wonder how different Australia might look today with these rights guaranteed, rather than left to political courage, the battle for truth and community will.

Don't miss the chance to help inform the First Nations agenda ( And Close the Gap ) by completing the Australian Human Rights Commission survey The Project seeks to collate and communicate the perspectives of First Nations Peoples across Australia on key issues affecting their lives, and to ensure First Nations voices are elevated in national conversations. These perspectives will inform the agenda of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner (Social Justice Commissioner) regarding key challenges First Nations people consider worth pursuing over her five-year term, including, the critical elements that are producing positive outcomes in the present, and how to work together to drive transformative change in the Indigenous policy and legislative landscape. Face-to-face consultations coming soon. To complete the survey https://lnkd.in/g-ZfE7M4

I live my life through the philosophy of ‘Yindyamarra Winhanganha’ – The wisdom of living in the Wiradjuri way.
In light of last years referendum result I would imagine there was lengthy discussion on the involvement and recognition of First Nations people in an Australian Republic Constitution but I don’t see us mentioned in your post. When I refer to “in light of” I am not necessarily highlighting the overall result!
