The speakers included Mmetla Masire, Managing Director at Okavango Diamond Company; Martin Rapaport, Chairman of Rapaport Group and Maksud Agadjani, Founder and CEO of TraxNYC. It was great to hear from the experts. Here are some of our key takeaways from the talk: ▪ Luxury brands should be specific about their values and identity to gain consumer trust. ▪The engagement ring market/bridal is key to success in the industry ▪With an ageing population, recycled/inherited jewellery will become increasingly important, offering huge opportunity and value for luxury brands. ▪Most importantly, brands should be asking the right questions about source certification. ▪Brands should put procedures in place to ensure they know where their diamonds come from. ▪And lastly, brands should understand that there is a human cost of illicit diamonds. Major breaking news from the retail/shopping segment of the cruise industry! Princess Partnership with Diamonds International for the Sun Princess is set to shake things up. For the past 30 years, Diamonds International has been the biggest, most powerful and most successful player in the shopping program cruise guests have been a part of, when cruising to the Caribbean, Bahamas and Alaska. But, this has all changed drastically and rapidly a few years ago, when its main rival, Effy Jewelry, have expanded to the onboard operation and have taken a strong hold of the onboard shopping program on most cruise ships, effectively expanding its reach and super successfully diminishing Diamonds International role as the major jewelry retailer, as well as other retailer such as Milano Jewelry and Starboard Cruise Services. A few weeks ago, Starboard Cruise Services announced an ownership change (which I wrote about here https://lnkd.in/gB3wQigj and here https://lnkd.in/eBm3xgXY), and, now, it looks like Diamonds International is pushing back slowly, but surly, finding a way to get their mojo back and to take back what they lost. This breaking news will be a crucial test and if successful, more doors will reopen for Diamond international to take over. So, fasten your seat belt, as this is going to be a fascinating event to watch (and be a part of)...
