Can our current weather and climate models provide us with information of how efficiently storms produce precipitation and how this could change in a warmer climate? We address these questions and present two novel methods to study precipitation efficiency in model simulations in our manuscript "Simulating precipitation efficiency across the deep convective gray zone" submitted to JGR Atmosphere. It was great to present our current work on linking direct, low-frequent rotational ground motion observations by #ROMY to atmospheric pressure variations at #EGU24

In 2023, the NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Hazardous Weather Testbed Experimental Warning Program (EWP) resumed in-person operations & hosted 5 experiments, allowing National Weather Service forecasters to test several new products for warning operations. We'll give a brief overview of the EWP’s activities. #AMS2024

New paper in GRL by Thomas Batelaan on the (lack of) changes in jet stream waviness, and the importance of accurately diagnose waviness, using aquaplanet simulations mimicking future changes in the meridional temperature gradient: https://lnkd.in/etywZmMu He found that 1. it is important to take the (meridional) position into account in diagnosing waviness using diagnostics like the sinuosity index. Not doing the might misrepresent the jet, and you might diagnose too many cut-off segments. 2. that the (extreme) waviness does decrease rather than increase in the reduced temperature gradient simulations.
