"DEI is a journey. It takes time. You have to lay a good foundation," said Bhavani Subramaniam, chief supply chain officer at Serta Simmons Bedding (second from right). But does DEI -- diversity, equity and inclusion -- make for great business, asked moderator Romaine Bostick, TV anchor at Bloomberg LP (far left). We were thrilled about our recent collaboration with Müller UK & Ireland , one of the nation’s favourite dairy brands, sourcing milk from 1,300 farmers in Britain to develop, manufacture, and market a wide range of products. Our fantastic coach and facilitator, Zoë Carter-Owen, used mojo - the employee motivation platform, to guide the team through nine different motivators, what they mean, and the strategies they can use to motivate, energise, and create a high-performance culture. Mojo drives productivity, boosts wellbeing, and improves engagement by determining WHY we do what we do. We also did a lighter touch on Insights, emphasising the HOW: how you interact with others and make decisions. This tool enhances people dynamics and improves workplace communication by offering a deep understanding of colleagues' and team members' behavioural preferences, strengths, and areas for development. The language of colour is simple to understand and remember, allowing the team to integrate it into the daily operations of Müller. We enjoyed seeing the team come together, discussing their insights about themselves and their teammates. The combination of using both Mojo and Insights will mean a more motivated, engaged, and high-performing team, driving positive outcomes for the entire organisation. Caught having an early morning conversation in the garden at 6:30 on Friday morning. I was working In Boksburg with young retail leaders this week, a very good week, even with the traffic. It made me think of the time I was stationed in Boksburg for a couple of years, a time that was simultaneously very challenging and very rewarding. It is where I learned that if you wanted to make big changes you needed all the people in the business to understand why changes were being made, what the vision was and how it aligned with the bigger purpose. What we are doing as a business to make the world around us better, together. I also learned that one changes some things quickly and almost drastically and others step by step, slowly and intentionally working towards a desired outcome. Emotional intelligence. And always telling the story. And throughout, because there will be setbacks, there will be disappointments, it is about staying positive and highlighting small wins on the way. Do not be fixated on the setbacks, learn from them. Creating a positive environment, an environment of possibilities, not being naive though and always truthful. Setting the example. Recognise and celebrate. Create an environment of opportunities. A productive environment. Where people and therefore the business can thrive. Where people enjoy the success of the business. It is all about the people. All the people.

Talking about innovation in traditional clothing As a Bavarian who grew up in Munich, it was nothing unusual to go to an event in traditional clothing. But so far it has been weddings, services or Oktoberfest. On Friday, I went to an impressive business event for the first time in lederhosen. The event page explicitly asked for it, which fits perfectly with the venue and also the new location of headquarters of the organization. In the best weather, a top-class audience and inspiring speakers gathered for the EuTech Forum 2023 in the picturesque setting at Lake Tegernsee. After inspiring keynote speakers, my colleague Dr. Richard Vestner joined in the first panel discussion on the topic of innovation. Equally exciting were the following thematic blocks on sustainability and collaboration. Despite the different sectors and industries represented, there was consensus that the three blocks are the decisive challenges for Germany and Europe on the way to a successful future. What thought-provoking impulses and discussion points appealed to me the most? 1.                  Innovation – What is the significance of regulations or standards here? Is it the necessary framework for successful implementation or an obstacle and cost driver? 2.                  Sustainability – Does sustainability cost money or are the costs of doing without sustainability are many times higher? 3.                  Collaboration – here I remember Cardinal Peter Turkson's idea that the real driver of collaboration and change comes from the heart. The perfect conclusion to the brilliant program was the presentation of the SDG Awards, living proof that even today many people and projects are already characterized by innovation, sustainability and collaboration.
