Why risk putting an #executive in front of an incisive journalist when there’s a gentler route? One word: credibility. The more credible the #journalist the more trust in your message. That said, many variables inform decisions on media interviews. And many channels exist to go direct to your audiences and should be considered as part of your overall #publicrelations & #communications strategy. Here's a highly debated topic in #PR: should PRs attend interviews or stay in the wings and catch up with the interviewee later? On the We Earn Media podcast, several journalists have advocated for a one-on-one dynamic between the expert/client and the journalist. However, Daniela S. Molina bucks the trend, actively encouraging PR presence. Why? Because PRs serve as valuable resources. Executing this requires finesse, though. Here's what to do: 1️⃣ Play the role of a "fly on the wall," attentively absorb information, and document key resources. 2️⃣ Post-interview, share these insights with the journalist. Doing so not only aids the journalist and interviewee but also strengthens your relationship with the journalist as a genuine resource. Daniela shares some more details in the clip. 👇 To catch the full conversation with the brilliant Daniela, be sure to subscribe! I never miss an episode of Simon Sinek's podcast, A Bit of Optimism. This episode resonated with me. I have had the opportunity to work with some leaders who are really great communicators and a few who could have been better. While I think we are born with some natural tendencies, I believe that communication is a learned skill that the best leaders learn to refine and hone as they climb the ranks. If you need a good weekend, listen - tune in, and let me know what you think. #whatsinsidecounts #communications #changemanagement #TGIF https://lnkd.in/gkrxDfju

Reflecting on the conversations I've had for the Digital PR Explained podcast, I noticed one central theme: the importance of prioritizing relationships with media contacts. 📱It is how Marlon LeWinter lined up coverage in The New York Times, CBS, The Associated Press, and Forbes in a week's time 📩 How Shara Seigel got her client featured in Fast Company 🍜 And Samantha Flynn attributed the power of relationship building to a feature she lined up for a client in Bon Appetit. But how do you do it authentically? Here are some ways I build and maintain relationships with journalists. Fellow #PRs, how do you build stronger relationships with media friends? #earnedmedia #digitalpr #publicrelations #mediarelations

Exclusives aren’t always the right strategy, but they can be incredibly powerful in securing top-tier coverage when used wisely. As I prepare to release the latest episode of Digital PR Explained later this week, I wanted to share some things I consider: 📰 Assess Newsworthiness: Not every story is meant for an exclusive. Focus on significant news—major partnerships, groundbreaking products, or industry-changing announcements that truly deserve the spotlight. 🔍 Do Your Research: Tailor your pitch to the right journalist who covers your industry. This increases your chances of getting your story covered by someone who understands its importance. 1️⃣ Pitch One Outlet at a Time: Give each outlet time to consider your pitch before moving on. This approach maintains exclusivity and builds trust with journalists. ✍ Craft a Compelling Headline: Your subject line should be as attention-grabbing as the story itself. Make it concise, clear, and compelling. 🤫 Keep It Off the Record Until Agreed: To protect the integrity of your exclusive, keep the story off the record until terms are finalized. 📅 Stay tuned! The full episode, in which I discuss these tactics and share more insights from journalists like Nicole Schuman and Tercius Bufete, will be released later this week.
