In Toronto, Canada, we often encounter scenes where bus drivers, sometimes grumpy, ignore people waiting at bus stops, refusing to stop, or even when they're already stopped, they pretend not to see someone asking to board. It's essential not to generalize, as there are instances where we're fortunate to encounter drivers who are attentive and diligent. Canada has a solid reputation for public transportation, but the actions of a few drivers make it challenging to praise the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) wholeheartedly. #ttc #transportetoronto #toronto #canada #TransporteToronto #TTCemFoco #MobilidadeTO #ÔnibusToronto #TransportePúblicoTO #TorontoTransit #TTCInsights #TOCommute #TorontoBus #PublicTransportTO

Ontario Launches One Fare Program: A New Era of Transit in the GTA Come Monday, the journey for countless Greater Toronto Area commuters will transform, thanks to the Ontario government's groundbreaking One Fare program. Launching on Feb. 26, this initiative promises a seamless and cost-effective transit experience, abolishing double fares for those transferring between the TTC and other regional transit agencies. Backed fully by provincial funds, the program is set to revolutionize travel within the GTA, offering a unified fare system that allows passengers to traverse various cities using buses, subways, or streetcars on a single fare. This move, heralded by Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, is poised to significantly lower transit costs, making public transport a more attractive and accessible option for everyday travel. #OneFareGTA #TransitRevolution #seamlesstravelmarketing #nomoredoubledates #OntarioGovernment #TTC #GTACommute #publictransportation #unifiedsystem #TorontoTransit #AccessibleTravel #MayorOliviaChow #TransportInnovation #veritasmedia

TRAIN TICKETS, THE UK RAILWAYS + PUBLIC TRANSPORT Having lived and worked in France and Germany for a considerable period of time, where the train networks are nationalised and have very sound environmental as well as commercial strategy, I think it is high time that Britain / The United Kingdom sat back down at the drawing board and re-assessed the country's thinkings about the railways (and other public transport), most particularly the pricing. In Germany, you can buy a monthly ticket for 49 Euros which will take you anywhere in the country on any method of public transport and you can use this monthly ticket as often as you like. Yes 49 Euros per month: https://lnkd.in/eeX76ePr It's more expensive for me to travel before 8am to London Victoria and back, for one return trip, which would cost me £53.50. I understand the supply/demand equation when it comes to pricing rail tickets, but feel it is high time that this was seriously re-considered. I travelled up on the 10:31am train from Billingshurst to London Victoria today and the return fare was £20, which in my opinion is absolutely spot on and fair value for money. Do I think a £53.50 return fare leaving at 8:01am or earlier is fair? No I don't. This is too much for a total of 2 hours 30 minutes on a train. If I drove, this journey would cost me £11.17 in fuel. Somehow, however improbable and unlikely, the new government needs to incentivise people to ditch the car and travel by train, bus, tram etc like people in Germany do. The only way to incentivise people to do this is to make the economic decision as to which method of travel to choose, a no-brainer: ie you leave the car at home every time and get on the train or another method of public transport. Are people with me on this one or am I barking up the wrong tree? #UKRailways #BritishRailways #PublicTransport

Thoughts on #NetworkRail…travelling to Scotland today, points failure in East Croydon, for 3 hours, multiple trains cancelled in South East. Missed my connection from LKX to EDI, now paying for another ticket. Britain’s Railways so clearly reflects Brexit Britain, broken almost beyond repair! A shambles travelling experience, with GBP billions spent on travellers not going anywhere, while you pay double for the privilege of standing on cold platforms looking wistfully into a railtrack abyss…. Thoughts on #Scotrail…just arrived Edinburgh Waverley (19:25 hrs), travelling North to Dundee. The Departure Board has zero trains departing North at this time, asked staff on ground, earliest train to Dundee leaves at 21:00 hours. The fourth major city in Scotland had no train connection for 1 1/2 hrs from the Capital at this time!!? The reason given was “it’s A Sunday”, the most Presbyterian of reasons…!? No mobile phone charging point available at EDI Waverley, a Station order I was told, all visible electric points taped over..!? A helpful LNER Ticket Office clerk provide some charge to enable me to contact family on my whereabouts...it is 2024 after all...Imagine how tourists react when they see this 20th Century monument to resisting change? Little wonder people think twice about relying on public transport to go anywhere North of Edinburgh!! To summarise; Time taken for me to travel from Surrey to Tayside today by train; over 12 hours!! A total embarrassment, I could have flown to Singapore 🇸🇬 in that time.. The UK desperately needs an integrated rail network. The current rail fragmentation model the British public have suffered over the long, cold platform waiting years, is great for the train operators, such poor value for UK plc. #networkrail #shambles #travelnightmare #brexit #Scotrail #north #forgottenlands #railwayinfrastructure #failures #ScotGov

From today you can enjoy cheaper travel on public transport across Queensland with a flat rate of 50 cents applying to all Translink services. As the Sunshine Coast continues to experience rapid population growth and increasing road congestion, this 6-month trial aims to encourage a shift towards public transport. The Sunshine Coast’s private vehicle ownership rates are the second highest in Australia. Without a significant mode shift to sustainable transport, we can expect 830,000 extra car trips on our roads daily by 2041. We understand that factors such as service frequency, accessibility, and connectivity are important considerations going forward. That said, are you tempted to try a mode switch? #publictransport #SunshineCoast #Translink #50cents

Did you know that UK airport drop-off and pick-up fees are at an all-time high? It's time to #DroptheDropOffFees! ✈️ With UK airport drop-off and pick-up fees soaring, we're getting behind The BTA's campaign against excessive airport drop-off fees to support travellers and remove barriers to travel. Airport drop-off fees are an unfair and excessive charge that UK airports impose on travellers. It's often claimed that high drop-off and pick-up fees lead to more sustainable travel decisions by passengers but discounted longer-term parking on site is heavily promoted to travellers, which still encourages car journeys. Plus, no incentive is offered by the airports for the use of electric vehicles. We've written to members of the House of Commons to ask them to engage with Clive Wratten, The BTA and the UK business travel community to investigate the principle and price of these regressive fees. The BTAs latest white paper tackles this issue head-on, showing how the charges harm consumers, business travel, and the whole travel industry. 📌 My good friend and colleague Ranjith brought my attention to the issue of #transit #fare setting and I thought it deserves attention. It should be understood that the ticket fare set by the transit agency and the fare experienced by the passengers are very different things. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒔: ☞ 𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒕, ☞ 𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒕, ☞ 𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒓𝒂 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒍 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒕, ☞ 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒕, ☞ 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒇𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒕, ☞ 𝒔𝒂𝒇𝒆𝒕𝒚 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒚 ☞ 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒐 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆. This is exactly what planners and bureaucrats fail to understand while making their assessments. This also explains why #MetroRail and #BRT based public transit manages to attract a different class of population (time conscious riders) that city buses do not manage to cater to.
