The idea of municipal architects in the UK generally conjures a particular era in our minds. The 1960s and 70s were a time of bold public building programmes. But, has the heyday of municipal architecture passed? Holly Lewis looks back to the future for TheMJ on her newest role as Town Architect for London Borough of Hackney where she is supporting the council’s existing in-house design teams in the delivery of an exciting range of programmes and projects. How can we re-invent the town/city architect role for the current local authority climate in 2024? 👀 https://lnkd.in/etV6R5sg #townarchitect #purpose #designchampion #London #Stadsarkitekter

From early projects for Greenpeace and the National Trust to guiding FCBStudios to international acclaim, Peter's leadership has consistently pushed the boundaries of sustainable architecture. Reflecting on the award, Peter said: “This honour acknowledges the long history of the practice in promoting environmentally and socially responsible architecture. It is a testament to the hundreds of people who have been part of the practice and the clients, contractors, and consultants who have enabled us to explore new approaches to design.” Peter’s commitment to education and social impact is unparalleled. The Virginia General Assembly Building is a beautiful restoration project on which we had the privilege of working and collaborating. Needing to be complementary to the original 1912 structure’s façade, a seamless match of color, finish, and profile alignment was required and critical to the project's success. Our architectural precast was designed to incorporate a large stonework pattern and was jointed to disguise joints and avoid disruptions in the pattern. Reminiscent of the Doric order of Greek architecture, some of the precast panels have architectural features like the guttae that can be found along the edge of various panels. The restoration of this historic piece of governmental architecture demonstrates how architectural precast can be used for new building façades in historic contexts. Architects: RAMSA | Robert A.M.
