LIFTING PLANS: ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS Working for almost 20 years in the oil and gas industry, one of the most important aspects during construction are lifting activities. The main criterion for safe and effective lifting is the drawing up of a lifting plan. Let us look at the essential elements together. ✅ Load details: Specifies the type of load: e.g. building materials, machinery or components. Indicate the weight of the load in terms of tonnes or kilograms. Describe the dimensions of the load: height, width and length. Consider any special characteristics of the load, such as fragility or dangerousness. Lifting Equipment and Gears: Elaborate on the details of the equipment involved: crane, overhead crane, tracks, etc. Specifies the types of straps, hooks or attachments needed to lift the load. Evaluate the lifting capacity of the equipment and ensure that it is adequate for the intended load. ✅ Personnel in charge: Define the roles within the team: coordinator, crane operator, signalman, etc. Indicate the skills required for each role. Ensure that personnel are trained to handle the equipment and follow safety procedures. ✅ Lifting method: Describe the sequence of operations for lifting: positioning, lifting, moving and final positioning. Include safety measures: e.g. safety distance, signalling, use of safety belts. Clearly communicate instructions to the personnel involved. ✅ Requirements for assembling or disassembling Lifting Equipment (if any): If the equipment requires assembly or disassembly, provide detailed instructions. Consider the time sequence for these operations. ✅ Means of Communication: Ensure that personnel can communicate effectively during the operation. Use radios, hand signals or other appropriate means to coordinate actions. ✅ Physical and Environmental Conditions: Assess the terrain where the lifting will take place: flat, sloping, uneven. Consider the weather: wind, rain, snow. Identify obstacles such as trees, buildings or power lines. Always remember: safety is the top priority! 🛡️ #lifting #LiftingPlan #construction #OilAndGas #HSE #CarloAlghisiAndPartners

I help people learn about rope access, build teams and execute projects in construction, maintenance and structural inspection.
IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) requires comprehensive site paperwork to ensure safety and compliance with its standards. The required documents typically include: 1. Risk Assessments: Detailed risk assessments must be performed to identify potential hazards and determine measures to mitigate them. 2. Method Statements: These documents outline the specific methods and procedures to be followed during the rope access work, ensuring all activities are conducted safely. 3. Work Plans: Detailed plans that specify the tasks to be accomplished, the sequence of work, and the methods used. 4. Rescue Plans: These are critical and must be tailored to the specific site and tasks, detailing how to carry out a rescue in case of an emergency. 5. Equipment Logs: Maintaining logs of all equipment used, including details of inspections, maintenance, and conformity with safety standards. 6. Operational Briefings and Debriefings: Documents that record briefings given to the rope access team, highlighting any specific hazards and control measures, and debriefings that review the work completed and any incidents or near misses. 7. Training and Certification Records: Documentation that verifies all personnel have the appropriate training and certifications for the work they are performing. These documents are crucial for ensuring that all rope access work is planned, executed, and reviewed with safety as the highest priority. If you need specific templates, further guidance, or help executing a project, I’m here to help! #ropeaccess #irata #ropeaccesstraining #renewables #windenergy #jobs #ropeaccesstechnician #veteranjobs

Working @ Heights: Rope access has become a critical element in executing work at heights, avoiding long turnarounds and asset downtime. Safety is paramount, and proper assurances must be in place to mitigate any potential risks. Adequate training of rope access professionals is critical to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Risk assessments must be done thoroughly by teams of artisans, technical personnel, operations personnel, and experts to ensure safety. Independent audits/site visits should also be put in place to confirm controls are in place. #ropeaccess #offshorelife #offshore
Rope Access: Working at Heights in an Offshore Field Rope access is a specialized technique used in offshore fields to safely access and work at elevated locations. It has proven to be effective in ensuring efficiency, safety, and productivity. This method requires specialized techniques and equipment to mitigate the unique challenges and risks of working at heights in an offshore environment. 1. Understanding Rope Access: Rope access, also known as industrial rope access or abseiling, is a method of work positioning that uses ropes, harnesses, and specialized equipment to reach challenging areas. It was originally developed from mountaineering and caving techniques but has been adapted for industrial use, including offshore operations. 2. Importance in Offshore Fields: Offshore oil rigs, wind turbines, and other offshore installations often require maintenance, inspection, and repair work at great heights. Traditional access methods like scaffolding or cranes can be time-consuming, costly, and impractical in these situations. Rope access offers a versatile and efficient solution for accessing these areas, allowing workers to perform their tasks safely and effectively. 3. Safety and Risk Management: Safety is paramount in any work environment, especially when working at heights. Rope access systems are designed to ensure the safety of workers by utilizing redundant safety measures. Workers are equipped with a harness that is connected to two separate ropes, providing a backup in case of equipment failure. Additionally, technicians undergo rigorous training and certification to ensure they have the necessary skills to operate in high-risk environments. 4. Versatility and Efficiency: Rope access techniques provide significant advantages in terms of versatility and efficiency. The ability to maneuver in tight spaces and reach challenging locations reduces the need for heavy machinery or extensive setup time. This results in cost savings, shorter project durations, and minimal disruption to ongoing operations. 5. Task Execution: Rope access is employed in a wide range of tasks in offshore fields. These include inspection and maintenance of structures, welding and fabrication, painting, installation of equipment, and more. The technique allows workers to position themselves precisely, providing better visibility and access to perform tasks effectively. 6. Regulations and Standards: Offshore operations must adhere to strict regulations and industry standards to ensure worker safety. Rope access work in offshore fields follows specific guidelines set by organizations such as IRATA and SPRAT to ensure workers are properly trained and work is conducted safely. Compliance with these standards is essential for a controlled and safe work environment.
