The name “Sulawesi” is believed to derive from two words in the local languages of the region: “sula” meaning “island” and “wesi” meaning “iron.” This could refer to the island’s historical association with iron, likely related to the traditional trade of iron goods, such as tools and weapons, that took place on the island. Sulawesi is the world’s 11th-largest island and is part of Indonesia, known for its distinctive shape and cultural diversity. The name reflects both its geographical identity as an island and its connection to the valuable iron trade historically significant to the region.
