 Dysphagia Two big types 1. Oropharyngeal dysphagia 2. Esophageal dysphagia If the patient in the question has a history of Parkinson's disease, or a stroke, think about oropharyngeal dysphagia. The patient is going to say that he/she has difficulty initiating swallowing, so basically transferring the food bolus from the mouth into the throat, and has coughing, choking, or nasal regurgitation of food. And how do you diagnose it? You diagnose it by doing a test called video fluoroscopy.
