This was a slide from a great presentation that highlighted the popular STAR*D trial and here are a few key points. * Most appalling only 37% of people get better with the first medicine!!! 💊 * The more oral antidepressants you try the less likely they are to work. In Australia, pain is the most common presenting symptom in the emergency department, with more than 55% of patients presenting with pain. This EMF-funded research explores benefits in pain reduction from non-pharmacological analgesia such as the application of heat or cold, activities that distract patients, meditation, massage and electrical stimulation. Other simple interventions such as lying down and positive conversations with nurses may help relieve a patient’s pain. The researchers say its use should be encouraged by care providers in the ED as alternatives to pharmacological treatments including opiates.
