For the last 7 years, I’ve had the honor of teaching compassion science to premeds at Notre Dame. We often welcome physicians to class to share their stories. Here are 3 things I’ve learned from those narratives: 1. There are few (if any) other colleges/universities teaching compassion science. We need more to join suit. 2. We use sympathy, empathy, compassion and understanding interchangeably…but each has it’s own true definition. 3. Docs are people, too. We patients often expect our docs to be superheroes, but docs have human emotions just like everyone else…and being a physician is tough work. Thanks to all you physicians who work every day to save and sustain patients just like me. Happy Physician’s Week! #PhysiciansWeek #PhysicianEngagement #ThankYou #CompassionScience #Compassion #NotreDame #PreMeds ---- 💭 What do you think? 📢 Reshare if you agree

This is what HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences is about: collaboration, exploration, respect for each other, and fun. Health science divisions need to build up interprofessional activities among all our professions. Starting these activities from the onset of our students’ training, will allow for students to respect each others chosen profession and understand that they WILL work together once out in the field. Because ultimately, the end goal is positive patient outcomes. We achieve this by working together as a collaborative healthcare team. We need to break silos between our occupations and build bridges instead. Thanks to Dr. Elizabeth Ho for starting this much-needed initiative. These efforts to train the next generation of healthcare professionals to work as a team are paving the way for a bright future. #arrt #txsrt #radiography #radiology #experiences #RADexperiences #asrt #radtech #radiographer #radiologictechnology #radiologic #BeRad #BeSeenASRT #ColemanCollege #HoustonCommunityCollege #Moments #JRCERT #CultureBuilds #healthcare #interprofessional #fun #healthcarecommunity #breaksilosbuildbridges #healthcareprofessionals #healthscience #healthsciencecollege #healthsciencescolleges #healthsciencedivision #healthscienceinitiatives

When in the pipeline do you start training to perform under pressure?
Chief Medical Officer at The Mission Critical Team Institute | ER Doctor | Applying Knowledge Under Pressure
It's never too early in the process to start learning about performing at our best when we're needed the most. I had an great time last week bringing our work from the Mission Critical Team Institute to some amazing undergraduate students in the University of Southern California pre-health program on an introduction to medicine under pressure. We worked on training to perform under adverse conditions like we see in emergency medicine -- the students learned to identify signals of stress and overwhelm in themselves and their teammates, and we put them in the hot seat as the head of a simulated trauma team with a great tactical decision game. Thank you to Emily Rose from Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California for the invitation - coming back later in the month to work with Glenn R. Fox PhD and the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies - USC Marshall! The Emergency Mind Project #missioncriticalmedicine #humanperformance #tdgs
