💡 The ideal company size is 5 - anything bigger and you fail 🧐 Having worked in multiple startups including now FOUND, in a midsized (but global) firm and a Fortune 500 company, I’ve always been intrigued by what the ideal company size is. 🏎️ Arthur Mensch (CEO of Mistral AI, who just announced another mega-raise of 600m EUR) argues that a team of 5 is much faster than a team of 50 - unless you create 10 teams of 5 and these teams are sufficiently uncoupled. 🚧 Our advisory board member Roland Philippsen - with his experience from startups (who turned into unicorns) to giants like Google - goes as far to say that the Dunbar number of 150 is a natural limit to the efficient size of an organization. Beyond 150, the necessary coordination efforts move the focus inwards (i.e. away from the user or customer) and generate significant overhead. 🦕 Large companies like Haier have deconstructed their organization to account for this - breaking down the company into hundreds of nimble, startup-like teams with limited cash and a high degree of agency. ❓ What do you think - what’s the ideal size of a company and can you break down large organizations into smaller and more effective teams? https://lnkd.in/eTcHrwNg

"US-based startups have received more than $2.2 billion in funding so far this year, compared to about $250 million for companies in Europe, according to new research by venture capital Earlybird. The AI funding boom began in late 2021 in the U.S., peaking at $3 billion per year. The United States has a significant lead over Europe in the number of emerging AI firms, with 1,752 startups compared to 1,157 in the 33 European countries monitored by Earlybird. This means that the U.S. has about 53% more AI startups than Europe."
