I love this article! The “amnesia” between semesters is real. That’s one of the reasons we created Sim2Grow’s med admin training simulator. The more times students can practice the entire med pass process, from dispensing through bedside barcode scanning and finishing up with documentation, the better off all patients will be. How do you give your students repeated safe practice opportunities?

Are you preparing your paramedic students for the new NREMT exam? Paramedic Class 10 at Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services will take the new NREMT Paramedic Cognitive Exam next week. They've been participating in two weeks of M-F 8-hour review days to prepare for the exam. The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians has been incredibly communicative and open about the new exam over the last year! Anytime there is a webinar about it, our students watch it along with our instructional staff. Today, students took the new sample test on the NREMTs website to ensure they know how these questions work and what the test looks like. Not using tools like this and preparing for the "operational" side of an exam is a failure of an education program. The anxiety students face with the immense amount of content they need to know should not be further exacerbated by unfamiliarity with the process. If unprepared, these are barriers to student success, especially for our underrepresented student groups! While we also use Platinum/EMS Testing and MedicTests with our students (and they are excellent tools), neither gets the new exam down exactly. Its through a combination of these tools, our review materials and strategies, and what the NREMT has released that we prepare our students. If you haven't checked out the info on the new exam and practice items, you should do so ASAP......and do them with your students! And yep, I'll be taking the test right there with them, because how can I as an educator prepare my students if I haven't also experienced. The high bar I set for my students is the same bar I set for myself. BE AN EDUCATOR, NOT AN INSTRUCTOR. https://lnkd.in/eeuKKHpG

Have you considered becoming a paramedic student? Now is the time paramedic programs start their application process until about July. So when’s the ideal time to attend paramedic class? Ideally, you had a little bit of street experience and you have the yearning to go to class with no big plans that will effect your studies/clinicals/ride along’s. What can prepare you for medic school? - looking at your EMT book, learning objectives and studying for a potential entrance exam which is usually based off the EMT finals. Secondly - study A&P asap, basically because it doesn’t change and will apply to you throughout your medical studies. With that being said, medical terminology is a big one too! Lastly - let’s talk “fail rate”. Most won’t tell you this, but usually students don’t “fail out”, the truth is they gave up on themselves. The didactic portion of medic school is tough. You need to be both mentally and physically ready for high pressure, high stakes exams while having a full time job and taking care of a family. Stressor’s will be a huge part of your life throughout class, don’t let it interfere with your end goal of completing the course. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. I’d be more than happy to help. Stay safe.

As nursing academia transitions from traditional educational pedagogical approaches to one of Concept Based Education, simulationist are faced with the challenge of defining and measuring nursing competency through Simulation Based Education. Current theoretical basis focus on Clinical Reasoning and implementing educational strategies to develop this skill through SBE. Seems like we are now facing a gap in how to evaluate competency in SBE. Anyone working on tool development for this new challenge?
