#MarchforMoms program in June, in Philly will continue to emphasize how community based partners are poised with HOW to improve outcomes for childbearing families without decades of policy debate and state/federal funding. In our third year of lifting up CBOs, these organizations are the heart of the community, providing critical work on slim margins and small staff. These organizations have the trust of the community. These organizations bring cultural congruency to facilitate health of families that often struggle with health literacy and trust with instutionalized care. These organizations have much to share about their work, their needs, and how YOU can help. I challenge every healthcare provider that has not heard the stories of community-based work to set biases aside and listen. The American Heart Association created“10 Commitments” to address barriers to health including adverse social determinants of health, unique rural health issues and structural racism. The commitments are to be achieved by 2024, the AHA’s 100th anniversary, and address key AHA impact areas. These include research, community work, health care access and quality, unhealthy targeting by industry of disadvantaged communities, diversification of the AHA workforce and more. Partnering with local media can be invaluable in raising awareness of hospice funding challenges. It also helps mobilise support from the local community. The American Lung Association emphasizes that millions of Americans live with undiagnosed lung conditions. Community initiatives like these provide individuals the opportunity to take charge of their lung health, which is vital for overall well-being. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 15 million adults in the U.S. have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
