Audiologist specializing in mobile audiology, telehealth, and public outreach.

I typically keep my audiology content creation separate from my LinkedIn presence, but I think this video is a good exception. Audiology is an extremely opaque corner of healthcare. So many people don’t know who we are, what we do, when you’d need us, where to find us, or how we’d help them! As a profession, there is a lot of room for improvement in better educating the general public as well as our fellow healthcare providers. I make content to normalize hearing healthcare and to slip some education in with their entertainment. At times, I also poke fun at how absurd hearing healthcare can be. Prime example: this video uses the real names of different technology tiers by the major hearing aid manufacturers. As an audiologist, it’s tough to keep track of! As a consumer? It is nearly impossible. If we truly want to improve accessibility to hearing healthcare, we need to begin with transparency and education. People want to be informed consumers! Can we meet them halfway? Timing is everything and I agree with you that the public and Healthcare people treat Audiology like the Drywall Mud Slingers of the Home Building industry (made that up just now), likely because Hearing issues are always "After the Fact", when the issues become real and inconvenient in lieu of preventive medicine... neither good nor bad, but a functional necessity in an area other Healthcare Providers cannot function well or understand. That is going to change with the next generation of Assistive Technology for the Deaf Children and then evolving into the Adult Deaf Communities to provide access to our Hearing dominated Societies... If you are interested in Deaf Child ECE Education and how Audiology will change to meet this need that is not aligned with the general Healthcare arena, but offers the next generation of Audiologists new paths to increased Thought Leadership and financial success... connect with me and I will give you the amp to the future... Thanks for all you do for our Children and Famililes with Hearing issues...

When business innovation and marketing differentiation generate a plethora of words that mean nothing. I spent a childhood-through-college lifetime not knowing the benefit of 'stereo' amplification because I was able to 'achieve so much' with just one hearing aid. Are there different 'levels' of knee replacement based on lifestyle? Sure, patients ultimately elect the procedure but do they have to pay more if they want their knee to be capable of bending more than 30 degrees? Time was, that technology performance really was connected to manufacturing sophistication, so it does irk me that hearing aids are so revolutionary that they have 2-year obsolescence cycles (remember when "good" hearing aids lasted at least 3-5 years) whether they are 1234- or 4321-level technology.

Or that there is no objective peer reviewed study that shows a higher technology level significantly improves speech understanding ...

Oh yes, when they release new models and give them numbers🤣 Followed by prices = more numbers and I don’t know about the rest of you but Audiology has a Lot of numbers/ graphs that all need explanation! Also isn’t some numbers like culturally sensitive?
