Indiana colleagues-the state is proposing new high school diplomas starting with the class of 2029 (current 7th graders). Public comment is open. Please review the proposal and share you thoughts with DOE and the state board of education. Indiana is now ranked 50th (yes the bottom) for the number of school counselors per student (we have 1 counselor for every 694 students in this state according to the American School Counseling Association). Connecting students to the options in these diplomas will require adequate counseling and corporate/school partnerships. Here are the proposed changes https://lnkd.in/gEipK_ib Here is the comment form https://lnkd.in/gN32f-Vr

Among the many problems with the appeal policy is that it relies so heavily on subjective measures of performance to determine whether a student is ready for graduation. Subjectivity leads to things like grade inflation, and opens the door to what my organization calls the "belief gap," an infuriating preconceived notion of what some kids can't achieve. The right thing to do here is to understand why our education system isn't creating success for these students and modify our teaching, resources, and support services to better serve them. The students aren't the problem, our inability to properly prepare them is - and that's something that we can fix. https://lnkd.in/gzqnQWrU

This alone would prevent so much damage within the secondary education system: "Planned adaptations to the curriculum for each lesson is inclusive of the knowledge strengths and weaknesses identified for all the children in each class" Universal teaching is a driver of inequality. Adaptive teaching is child centred.
