Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been supporting #bisp's #conditionalcashtransfer programs linked to #education and women's access to essential #nutrition services. With our additional financing, we will work with #bisp to develop a #povertygraduation program that will enable members of beneficiary households to get #skills training for #selfemployment and #jobs in growth sectors, and a real opportunity to break out of the multi-dimensional #povertytrap. It is programs such as this that give a #lifeline and address #basic needs of the most vulnerable while creating opportunity for improved #livelihoods, (and our projects other #humandevelopment projects in the region of modernday Silk Route, from Armenia to Afghanistan to Mongolia) that makes all the physical tolls of jetlag and hyper travel worthwhile. Zakat Collection Service Our Community Zakat Program in collaboration with National Zakat Foundation has given out over £40,000 of zakat to over 400 people since the end of March this year. Through this program we have welcomed people into our Centre, and reassured them that someone cares about and for them. The relationships built enabled people to access our other services like legal advice, madrassa, Islamic Counselling, substance misuse, Scouts and sports, either at a reduced rate or for free. Access to quality education, healthcare, and other essential services often hinges on economic status. Although a segment of the population may be increasingly able to access educational institutions, the quality and equitable distribution of these services are severely lacking. Furthermore, political corruption exacerbates these inequalities. Widespread corruption within the government diverts resources away from public services, creating barriers to upward mobility for lower-income individuals (Transparency International, 2020). The existing middle class often struggles to access quality healthcare and education, reinforcing the notion that those labelled as middle class may not actually enjoy the benefits that a true middle class should possess.
