You get what you negotiate not what you deserve. It is unfair but unfortunately it’s true. I speak to candidates all the time and it’s obvious the ones that don’t negotiate, miss out. Here are some key questions to explore when negotiating your salary: 1. What’s the policy on salary reviews within your company? (Find out the frequency and percentage of increase) 2. What is the salary range for your role in the industry? (Speak to a recruiter who knows their market) 3. What are my peers paid? (Sometimes take this with a pinch of salt as some people might exaggerate their salary) 4. What is my performance track record? (Collect evidence of everytime you are achieving and exceeding objectives in your current role) If you’re feeling undervalued after answering these questions, discuss this with your manager/boss. It’s awkward, maybe even uncomfortable. However, after the conversation, you will either get the desired outcome, a short term plan working towards it or a clear reason to leave. #negotiation #salaryreview #salaryincrease
