🛻What are Automotive Mission Profiles? ✈ A “Mission Profile” is defined as the collection of relevant environmental and functional loads that a component will be exposed to during its lifetime and the corresponding worked hours. They are usually passed on to the supplier in the form of histograms, time series, or effective constant values of the relevant stressors. Why are they important? Mission profiles are becoming a necessary part of reliability requirements and qualifications. The automotive industry depends on new leading-edge semiconductor technologies to realize innovative applications. They have to do it without sacrificing the established reliability standards of their products. Moreover, the number of electronic components per car is increasing significantly—the average value of semiconductors is rising from $500 to $1,500 for a standard EV, and up to $4,000 for an autonomous vehicle. Therefore, achieving an appropriate balance between reliability and a cost-optimized solution is a key aspect of new electronic module designs. This is where mission profile analytics becomes crucial.
