1st Entrepreneur in residence startup from 京都大学 Kyoto University producing energy and bio CO2 for carbon removal by a modular system reacting biomass with liquid containing special acid and metal ions. Go talk to Atsushi Alex Mazawa to learn more about his new modular BiCRS tech! He reviewed 13k technologies owned by Kyoto uni and came to this solution. Has to be interesting!! Can’t agree more on the necessity to have more entrepreneurial mindsets and support to support such individuals in Japan. And yes first time I personally saw the word Entrepreneur in residence in Nikkei!

真面目な企業には新規事業は難しい。 新規事業で大事なのは、抽象化された物事に対して迅速に試作品を作り、小さなKPIを決めたら小さく投資してみること。 スピードと観察が重要です。 日系企業は、人事評価が上司の肌感覚による減点方式であったりするので、新規事業とは相性が悪いと言えます。 ------------------ New business is difficult for serious companies. What is important in a new business is to quickly build prototypes for abstract things and make small investments once small KPIs are determined. Speed and observation are important. Japanese-affiliated companies are not a good fit for new businesses because personnel evaluations are sometimes based on a point deduction system based on the boss's sense of skin in the game.

日本企業での付加価値向上の鍵は新興企業に資金を循環させ、新規事業への研究開発費の効率を大幅に上昇させることだ。 私は既存事業への投資に偏っている日本の投資環境を変化させるために資金循環ファンドを立ち上げたい。 The key to increasing value-added in Japanese companies is to circulate funds to startups and significantly increase the efficiency of R&D spending on new businesses. I would like to establish a fund to the Circulate Funds in order to change the investment environment in Japan, which is biased toward investment in existing businesses.

Many hurdles exist for swing-by IPOs in Japan, as highlighted by Asakura-san, one of Japan’s venture capitalist. Major Japanese corporations hold a wealth of dormant technologies. Encouraging entrepreneurship through carve-outs can unlock this potential.
