Last week, I had the pleasure of working with Saica Group Natur in Spain who was new to our safety systems at conveyor belts, but had a strong background in electrical work. I was excited to share my knowledge to ensure a successful installation.
From the outset, it was clear that the colleagues at Saica were eager to learn and understand the intricacies of our safety system. We took a collaborative approach, taking the time to explain the system's features and functionalities in a meeting that involved management, technicians as well as operations people. This open communication helped to establish trust and ensured that the customer was comfortable with the installation process.
We took the time to demonstrate our system in a demo setup during the pre-installation meeting to provide a comprehensive overview of our safety solution.
As we began the installation, I was pleased to see that the Saica team was interested in understanding the potential risks associated with electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues. Our customer wanted to learn how these factors could impact the system's performance, and I was happy to explain the measures we would take to mitigate these risks.
Together we identified potential sources of interference and electromagnetic fields. I explained the importance of proper shielding and cable management to minimize the risk of EMI.
During installation we took the time to test what we discussed during the meeting. The results were impressive and we were able to show that there was no interference from a nearby collision warning system. Success!
As we installed the system, we highlighted the features that required special attention. Our customer was particularly interested in the two-channel e-stop, alarm and notification systems, power supply, and our PSM transponders.
Throughout the installation, the technicians were engaged and asked thoughtful questions. We worked together to ensure that the system was installed correctly, and our customer was satisfied with the final result.
This installation was a resounding success, thanks to our collaborative approach, attention to detail, and the customer's willingness to learn. The key takeaways from this experience are:
➡ The importance of clear communication and education in ensuring a successful installation.
➡ The need to address electromagnetic fields and interference proactively.
➡ The value of a thorough site survey and proper installation techniques.
➡ The benefits of a collaborative approach, where the customer is engaged and informed throughout the process.
My recent experience with Saica Natur was a testament to the importance of effective communication, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach. By working together, we were able to deliver a successful installation that met our customer's needs and expectations. I'm confident that these lessons will also serve others well in future installations and happy to share this positive experience with others.
