This year’s NAIDOC Week will again celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with the theme of “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud”. ANZSOG acknowledges the importance of NAIDOC Week as a celebration which honours First Nations peoples and reminds us of the importance of our own journey to become a culturally competent organisation, making a positive contribution to First Nations policy and public administration. Held across Australia from 7-14 July 2024, this year’s NAIDOC Week recognises the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire as a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In NAIDOC week, and throughout the year, ANZSOG stands with the First Nations of Australia and supports aspirations for a just and equitable relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and for First Nations communities to have control over their own lives. Despite the progress we have made, there are still many structural and cultural changes that need to happen within public services to make this a reality, and we are proud that ANZSOG is working to help make those changes happen.

Our nation is enriched by amplifying Indigenous voices, engaging with traditions, and telling their stories. NIDA seeks to educate and inspire our community as we nurture the next generation of creative storytellers. "First Nations people understand that fire can burn in different ways: cool or hot. When we express ourselves proudly, we ensure our voices are heard. If we suppress our expressions, anger can build up like the fuel loads on unmanaged country, leading to a destructive, hot fire. A hot fire, like unchecked anger, can be blind to its surroundings, unwittingly destroying everything in its path and hindering future growth. On the other hand, a cool fire burns gently, sees where it’s going and is welcomed by its surroundings. It cleanses and clears obstacles, nurturing an environment where future generations can thrive. It's Green Careers Week! Did you know that a green career can be any job, role or occupation that contributes to preserving or restoring the environment and our planet. According to a 2021 study by Bath University (speaking to 10,000 young adults across 10 countries including the UK), two-thirds of the 16-25 year olds surveyed were worried about climate change and three-quarters felt the future was frightening. Caribbean Civil Society seeks a stronger voice in defining sustainable development priorities in small island states, and a recognition of the vital the role they can play. "The Caribbean We Want" is a document developed by Caribbean Civil Society outlining priorities to feed into the SIDS4 conference in May 2027. 💪 We are excited to announce our partnership with the European Scout Region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM)! We talked to Jeremy Apert, Member of the European Scout Committee, who told us more about the Scout Movement and why the European Scout Region of the organisation chose to join The Climate Action Accelerator. “Scouting is an educational movement for young people that builds friendships, promotes active citizenship, and helps young people build skills for life”, he explains.
