I am thrilled to share that I attended a comprehensive workshop on road paving techniques on November 4, 2024, at the Holiday Inn in Tabuk. This event was meticulously organized under the auspices of the Saudi Road Code by الهيئة العامة للطرق | Roads General Authority. During this workshop, we delved into various cutting-edge techniques and methodologies in road construction. Key topics covered included: - Modern Paving Materials: Understanding the properties and applications of newer, more durable paving materials. - Sustainability Practices: Learning about eco-friendly practices in road construction to minimize environmental impact. - Technology in Road Construction: Exploration of the latest technologies such as automated paving machines and GPS guided excavation techniques. - Project Management: Best practices in managing road construction projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and safety management. I am grateful for the knowledge gained and the professional connections made during this event. It was an enriching experience that has equipped me with additional tools and techniques to enhance my contributions to the field of civil engineering. #RoadPaving

From the Field to the Drawing Board: The Value of Site Visits in Engineering Development. As a design engineer in the oil and gas sector, I’ve always believed that true engineering growth happens when we step out from behind the desk and into the field. Over the past few weeks, I had the privilege of visiting Many Plants across Saudi Arabia, including Yanbu, Medina, Tabuk, Turaif, Duba, and Midyan, each with its own set of unique challenges. What struck me most was how much can be learned from seeing designs come to life in their real-world settings. Whether it’s the geography, climate, or operational constraints of each site, every location adds a new layer of insight that can’t be gained through drawings or simulations alone. These visits offer a hands-on perspective of how our designs interact with their environment, and they bring to light the nuances that we might miss during the design phase. I’d like to take a moment to thank my colleagues, Carlos Madrid Jr., and Rafael Errol, for their collaboration and teamwork during these visits. It’s always a pleasure to work alongside professionals who share the same commitment to delivering exceptional results. The photo below, taken in Turaif, captures one of the more memorable moments standing in the cold desert where temperatures reached 1°C. This experience truly highlighted the extremes we often work with and reminded me of the vital importance of real-world understanding in the design process.
