I stumbled upon a box of my old Disneyland name badges recently and it brought back memories of my first Disney internship at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. It was my first time working away from home and everything felt new. However, Disney has a way of making you feel at home and it was nice to see our hometowns on the name badges. My badge had Ogden, Utah on it, and it was the first time I proudly told people where I was from. I'll always remember the conversations I had with guests who were curious about Ogden or shared their own stories about Utah. It's where I got the tag line, "Fun in Utah". Utah’s aerospace and defense sector continues to grow in national importance, as revealed by the FY 2023 Defense Spending by State report. With a significant portion of the state’s GDP linked to defense contracts, Utah stands out for its contributions to missile defense, aerospace innovation, and military infrastructure. Key 47G member companies, such as Northrop Grumman, Albany International Corp., Boeing, Mortenson, RTX, BAE Systems, Raytheon, Nammo Defense Systems Inc., and Utah State University, have made tremendous strides. Northrop Grumman leads in solid rocket motors, while Albany International Corp. advances composite materials technology. Boeing and Raytheon are enhancing missile defense capabilities, and BAE Systems and Nammo are focused on precision-guided munitions and propulsion technologies. Utah State University's local expertise further enriches cutting-edge research and workforce development in the state. Together, these companies are not only advancing the U.S. defense mission but are also integral to the resilience and strength of Utah’s economy. What happens when you place the CEO of the SLC-Utah Committee for the Olympic Games, next to the CEO of the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, next to BYU’s Head Women’s Cross Country Coach and “Olympic Mindset” guru? The answer is: MAGIC! The Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce hosted a 2034 Olympic Panel featuring Fraser Bullock, Colin Hilton, and Diljeet Dosanjh-Taylor, respectively, as they discussed the awesome things happening in Utah and Utah County as we prepare for the games. Said Diljeet about the Olympic mindset and how it relates to business: “You have to be obsessed with your craft in any organization that you are in.” Like I said: MAGIC!
