Alba Partners | Imperial College London | Ex-Deloitte (US) | Financial Consulting Enthusiast | LinkedIn Top Voice
I have recently started my last semester at Imperial College Business School and here’s how my experience for the last 2 semesters has been, both inside and outside the classroom: Studying at such an institute is extraordinary. You can do things here that you normally can’t do anywhere else at this stage of your career. Here at Imperial College London: 📍I’ve worked on real-life consulting projects 📍I’ve learnt about empathy and leadership styles in a leadership session with horses 📍I’ve done multiple simulations experiencing how real-world problems are dealt with 📍I’ve traveled across continents for a project 📍I’ve attended so many career sessions conducted by top companies 📍I’ve networked at various events 📍I’ve selected modules of my choice, with folks from different courses 📍I’ve met with program leaders and professors 1 on 1 to discuss my career plans 📍We’ve chosen companies and topics to build projects on 📍We’ve role-played as different people at an organisation, and had discussions as CEOs, Sector Leaders, Partners, etc., and convinced people into doing things our way and voting for our agenda 📍And the list goes on and on Nothing compares to these experiences. There’s so much flexibility and room for innovation. My course, especially, is so practical. Apart from theoretical knowledge, we learn how things work in the real world. It’s more about implementation and execution. I’ve had the best time so far, and I am looking forward to what’s next. As I start my last semester, I welcome any advice or opportunities you may have for me. I am eager to connect with like-minded individuals in the UK, so if you know someone, please tag them below or introduce me over DM! #london #imperialmeansbusiness #ourimperial #imperialcollegelondon #topuniversity #finance #management #jobs #hiring #uk #businessschool

Strategic Partnerships | Innovation Evangelist | Future of Education Strategist | XPRIZE Advisor | Keynote Speaker
What will it take to transform education? Well it depends on how fast you want that “transformation” to happen. It also depends on what you want to transform from and more importantly what you want to transform to. The public education system is the cornerstone of modern society and while it has many many challenges related to inefficiencies, and ineffectiveness, it has created a profoundly positive impact on our species. I say this fully aware of the inequalities and cultural damage many education systems have promoted around the world. The fact is there is significant complexity and ignoring that nuance will not get us to where we want to go. But where do we want to go? Who wants to go where? What is “the job to be done?” And who wants that job done? The challenge of transformation and disruption is not unique to education. The challenge of disruption is a challenge for all industries and sectors. This challenge involves concepts around identity and success within the very systems themselves. Almost all leaders have become leaders by conquering the challenges within that system with a level of effort and strategy (and often some forms of visible and invisible privileges) . It is an identity defining achievement. The good news is that there are highly probable scenarios and strategies that successful organizations have used and those scenarios and strategies are often transferable and repeatable. They work on the personal leadership level all the way up to the organizational level. I am wary of the challenges, but I am radically optimistic about the possibilities. #leadership #thefutureofeducation #futureofwork #transformation

Vice President of National Sales @ Southeastern Freight Lines/ Adjunct Professor at The Moore School of Business - University of South Carolina
Great read on the subject. Have seen this failure first-hand at the university level with a highly-degreed subject matter expert woefully ill-prepared to lead organizationally. But, this problem is not limited to universities…we see it in businesses, also. That is, one who excels in a single lane of the business unit is promoted to lead all lanes. Many of them are not able to effectively manage and merge all lanes (I.e. operations, sales, finance, IT, etc.) of the business in a productive and healthy way. The skillset to do this is unique and very few are called to lead at that level. However, when you do get “that leader”, in the words of the great philosopher Peyton Manning, “it’s on like Donky Kong”.

Recently, I visited the University of Warwick - Warwick Business School, one of the UK’s leading research centres, which consistently tops world rankings for its cutting-edge MSC Finance and Executive Education Programmes. The University’s campus is state-of-the-art and sits at the forefront of innovation, and it was a privilege to share my experiences with over 100 talented students who are about to set out on their own individual leadership journeys. During a Q&A session at the end of the event, many were keen to learn how I had secured my first job after leaving university and what they should look for in a potential employer. While everyone must make their own journey, I suggested looking for companies with a clear growth strategy to offer the widest possible range of experience. The first 15 years of your career are critical to your future success and students need to be demanding of their employers, ensuring they get the opportunities for development that will allow them to leave their mark on the workplace. I also argued that EQ is an essential quality in all good leaders. Despite incredible recent advances in AI and machine learning, technology will never replace the role which emotional intelligence can play in inspiring people to achieve amazing things. It was clear that this message resonated deeply with the students, reflecting the growing demand among all the young people I meet for a leadership model that is sector agnostic and can be applied to every aspect of working life. Thanks to Professor Achim Krausert for having hosted me and to all the students for your great questions! Together we can put the soul back into business! #Intertek #Warwick #LeadershipWithSoul #Humanistleadership
