The Grenfell Inquiry Phase 2 Report was published last week, and there's plenty for the construction industry to unpack 🏗️⚠️
We've already seen significant changes to building safety recently, but what other lessons can we learn from the report? 🤔 https://ow.ly/sGLi30sGuq7
Next Tuesday evening the Civil & Structural Branch is hosting two Policy Officers from the NSW Building Commission who will be presenting proposed changes to the regulatory landscape in NSW in relation to residential construction in NSW.
The proposed changes include an amalgamation of current NSW Law in relation to construction, including moving the Design and Building Practitioner Act requirements into the new legislation.
As Engineers, we have a short window to contribute to the refining of the most significant legislation in a decade.
There are significant risks that Engineers need to be aware of in this space. Did you know for instance that you can be PERSONALLY liable for ALL the defects on a project if you make any small mistake!!
Why can you be liable for ALL the defects on a project? Because the D&BP Act negates the Proportionate Liability protections that should exist to protect engineers and others in the industry to only those that they are responsible for.
We have a chance to fix this issue.
So I encourage you to attend this Seminar to learn how to write a submission on these reforms, and undo some of the unfair changes created when the Design and Building Practitioners Act was rolled out.
Our next technical seminar is planned for Tuesday 27 August 2024. Register at the link provided. This is an online event only. You will learn how the proposed regulatory changes in NSW will affect engineers working in the residential construction space and have the opportunity to ask questions to Michael Marks, Policy Manager and Maheen Rajwani, Senior Policy Officer of the Building Policy team.
🔺 🏢 Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024: an update to the Building Safety Act 2022 🏢 🔺
I am excited to share that Daniel Russell and I have co-authored an article on the updates that the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 made to the Building Safety Act 2022 and the impact such changes may have on the Construction Industry.
We discuss topics including the additional costs to cover for freeholders, the power to order freeholders to take relevant steps, and other changes that have been brought in.
