🚨 NEW BLOG POST. I’m not a father and my relationship with my dad was fraught. He died when we were both too young, and I’ve been working on me ever since. In this post I write about one of my favorite sacred places, the Wind Point Lighthouse, the pull of Lake Michigan, family, friends and Father’s Day. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/ehFE2yMm

🆒 People Like You Make the Wag Happen. One of the best things about my Wagtown, Inc. journey: the people that I have met along the way. For most of the research I did to create the foundation for our nonprofit business plan, I traveled solo. All over the country, talking to leaders in economic development, travel & tourism, hospitality, animal welfare, public health and safety, legislation, etc., gave me both a fisheye lens AND a what I call a kaleidoscope microscope to observe and unpack the local experience and culture. When you are by yourself, especially when you are a woman, you keep your guard up. You’re in a strange city, and you know no one. It’s good to be vigilant. But, that makes it difficult to truly immerse yourself in what makes the community tick. Oddly enough, I suppose, based on how my brain works, I found it most impactful and genuine to jam pack my schedule across several days with meetings and site visits. Google maps and Uber were my best friends. I had to be hyper focused during all of my interviews knowing that my next meeting would be immediately relevant to what I was listening to. Every conversation was like a chapter in a book, and I couldn’t wait to turn the pages. To be honest, it was pretty exhilarating. I could feel the kaleidoscope of dog friendliness possibilities seeping in down to my core. I was completely immersed in the story of the community and I could feel myself slightly let my guard down. That’s when everything clicks. When you intentionally surround yourself with people who drive innovation and vibrancy in communities and industries, you can collect the information, but you also get the to witness the passion. That is contagious. Information is power, but when you combine it with passion: wow. Your appreciation for serendipitous moments and possibilities shoots sky high. You start to see them everywhere and begin to attract them like ants to a picnic! It’s fantastic. Here is an example. Not long ago, I happened across a recent interview of colleague Mike Bober, CAE by Cecilia Sepp, CAE, ACNP of Rogue Tulips Nonprofit Consulting & Association Management Services. They had a great conversation (I’d follow her work if I were you) and I loved Cecilia’s approach to sharing information with interesting people who follow her work. If you follow me on here, there’s a chance that you won’t be surprised to hear that I gathered up my gumption and messaged her. Go for it, right? I had a feeling that my question would be received with kindness. We had a great chat about both of our entrepreneurial journeys, and became official members of the mutual admiration Society. Ha ha. See? As a result of one of those random scroll ups that we all do, I made a new friend, learned about a new niche in the industry, and was lucky enough to schedule an interview with her about my company and initiatives. Cecilia, I’m so glad that we connected and I thank you for helping me share my story. #pleaseshare 👋

We apply many of these principles in our #solargrazing program. Many people are looking for a silver bullet or a magic formula for how to graze properties where one doesn’t exist. You have to adapt to the cadre of conditions that exist & be nimble to changes in real time. There are so many variables that a computer model-mindset or a codified #grazing plan won’t get you very far. There is an ART and a #science to managing #pastures well. It may not be perfect based on the species in the field, time of year, number of animals, how long they’re on a paddock, weather, etc. but you MUST develop an eye for what the vegetation status & animals performance is telling you.
