🌿 Adopt a Green Spot in Amsterdam: Building Community and Sustainability Together🌿 One of the things I love about living in Amsterdam is the city's commitment to sustainability and community involvement. Did you know that as a resident, you can adopt a piece of public greenery? From the little patches around trees to flower beds, the city invites locals to take ownership of small green spaces. Not only does this beautify the neighborhood, but it also fosters a sense of community, encourages biodiversity, and makes the city more livable for everyone. 🌸🌱 Imagine walking through your neighborhood and seeing greenery that you've nurtured yourself – it’s an incredibly rewarding way to contribute to a greener future. And the city is there to support you, sometimes even providing resources like soil or bulbs. It’s a small, meaningful way to make an impact. #Sustainability #GreenLiving #UrbanGreening #CommunityBuilding #Amsterdam #AdoptAPlant #NeighborhoodPride https://lnkd.in/eNKVKUnS

💡 Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí 🇮🇪 is the new #ICLEIMember in the spotlight! Comhghairdeas 🎉 To promote #urbandevelopment, the city is successfully integrating Nature-based Solutions through Green & Blue Infrastructure initiatives 🚍🌳 And this is just one part of the “Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028” - the city’s primary land-use planning document - guiding main sustainability projects in the city 📄 📢Cllr. Kieran McCarthy, Lord Mayor of Cork underlines: “With our city set to grow very significantly over the next generation, we in Cork have equally big ambitions to ensure that this takes place sustainably (...) Just as we are now implementing numerous EU-supported partnership projects on different sustainability themes – including some working directly alongside ICLEI – our membership of the network opens further doors for Cork in terms of connecting and collaborating with like-minded peers to learn from their good practices and innovative approaches. Despite our geographical isolation on the Atlantic periphery of Europe, this gives Cork a stake and a voice in an influential and vocal local sustainability movement.’’ #BlueInfrastructure #GreenInfrastructure #Naturebasedsolutions

Is #Brisbane Australia’s most sustainable city? Brisbane will be the first Olympics host city in history to be contractually obligated to deliver a carbon positive games, in 2032. Brisbane is the first and only Australian city to receive Gold certification as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals programme, and Brisbane City Council has been carbon neutral since 2016. Hear what Brisbane City Councillor, Tracy Davis, had to say about the remarkable examples Brisbane is setting for the rest of the world at #WhereShadeHitsthePavement earlier this year. https://lnkd.in/gauygUt5 Brisbane is showcasing the essential synergy between public policy and urban design solutions, reminding us that green spaces aren’t just about aesthetics; it's about creating healthier, cooler, and more liveable urban spaces. 🌳🚵🏃🌳 Give a shout out to a town you believe is leading by example in creating a climate positive future. #urbanrenewal #urbandesign #sustainability #urbanheatisland #heatislandeffect #greensolutions #greeninfrastructure #climateaction #urbanplanning #urbanforest #greenspaces #sustainabledevelopment #localgov #greencity #climatepositive #localgov

Parks are incredibly important resources, not just for our green infrastructure and battle against climate change and biodiversity loss 🦋 They also hold immense societal value, providing opportunities to improve our mental and physical health. ✋ But, research conducted by Leeds University shows women are less likely to use our nation's parks, for a number of reasons, but one that stands out is due to a fear of safety. No one should have to feel unsafe in any situation, no less when trying to connect with nature 🐝 That's why the #GreenFlagAwards 🌳 scheme, managed by Keep Britain Tidy, is so important. They recognise the parks that are well maintained, and kept safe for people to enjoy. More about this year's winners can be found 👉 https://lnkd.in/e2nYF-SG 📣 We need to do more to keep our parks and green spaces, not only alive and thriving for nature, but also safe for ourselves 📣 #greenspaces #parks #safety #nature

You've probably seen #Urbis's #CityGreening initiative (see latest video below and more info here: https://lnkd.in/gpMKe4ZS). And, I know what you're thinking: There's nothing new here. I'm all across climate change and the urban heat island effect, and I understand the critical importance of biodiversity and WSUD. I know that embedding nature in our urban places is important not only for planetary health, but also for human health - both physical and mental. We're already addressing this by creating connected green networks in new urban areas and increasing tree canopy cover in existing streets and public spaces. But wait! The public realm can’t address this challenge alone. Green walls and green roofs help, but they’re difficult and can only make a small difference. Have you thought about how different building forms facilitate or preclude greening? Many planning controls focus on limiting building height. But what if we allowed a bit more height in exchange for bigger setbacks to allow for tree planting? Join the conversation over the next few weeks as we explore how development can make meaningful contributions to City Greening.

It’s obvious, but often doesn’t happen - applying city greening principles early in the planning process sets projects up for success. Successful city greening outcomes foster more resilient, healthy & liveable urban environments for everyone. Not to mention the economic dividends. Who wouldn’t want that?! #citygreening #urbanecology #urbandesign #greenspaces #landscapearchitecture
