🌊🌍 Hey LinkedIn Community! Let's talk about something important: keeping our waterways clean. Did you know that in Florida, our storm drains don't have grates to stop trash from entering our rivers and oceans? This means that any litter on the streets can easily end up polluting our beautiful waterways. 🚯 Every piece of trash that makes its way into a storm drain has the potential to harm marine life, disrupt ecosystems, and degrade the natural beauty of Tampa Bay. By taking simple steps like properly disposing of waste, participating in our local clean-up efforts, and educating others about the impact of littering, we can all contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet. 🌿 Let's take pride in our community and set an example for others. Remember, every little bit helps, and together, we can make a big difference. 🌊💙Thank you Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council for funding our storm drain painting initiative. #KeepOurWaterwaysClean #NoTrashInStormDrains #ProtectFlorida #EnvironmentalAwareness #CommunityAction

The devastating wildfires in Los Angeles have resulted in the tragic loss of five lives and the destruction of entire neighborhoods, sparking a contentious debate on the city's response and the role of Mayor Karen Bass. Critics have accused Bass of reducing the Los Angeles Fire Department's budget by $23 million, leading to dry fire hydrants and insufficient resources for firefighters. However, the city's fire budget actually saw an increase of over $50 million compared to the previous budget cycle. Experts argue that the core issue lies in the fact that urban water systems are not designed to combat massive urban wildfires. These fires are driven by Santa Ana winds, extremely dry scrub grass, and vegetation, rather than budget cuts or the mayor's actions. Wildfires are an inherent part of California's ecosystem, and our continued reliance on greenhouse gas-emitting fossil fuels exacerbates the problem. It's crucial to recognize that fire is a natural element of California's environment, and our densely populated neighborhoods and expensive homes are situated in areas prone to burning. Our ongoing use of fossil fuels like there's no tomorrow only worsens the situation. What are your thoughts on the situation? Do you think the criticism against Mayor Bass is fair or misguided?

Large scale RX burns when conditions allow are Imperative to Forest Health, and community resilience.Whether the value is timber, infrastructure, or communities above all life.. Rx Fires with proper insight and collaboration can be extremely instrumental in providing the desired fire effects to reduce future, problematic / catastrophic fire. Excellent work.
🌲 🔥 With the goal of protecting the health of the giant sequoias of Calaveras Big Trees State Park, California State Parks and CAL FIRE conducted a prescribed fire within the highly sensitive and cherished ecosystem. More than 100 inter-agency firefighters treated over 1300 acres. This work is part of a larger fuel reduction effort that ties into a larger fuel break, protecting the local area from future fires. In addition to providing fuel breaks, these projects have incredible positive environmental impacts by releasing soil nutrients, removing competition, and allowing new trees to sprout. #StateParks #Goodfire #controlledburn California Fire Prevention Officers Association California State Parks California State Parks Foundation Joe Tyler Anale Burlew Nick Schuler, CFO, PIO Christine McMorrow Wade Crowfoot CA Wildfire & Forest Resilience Task Force

#Repost from TxN Community Contributor, Madeline Bracken! *** Trash accumulates along Texas’ coastal areas ten times faster than any other Gulf state. 😨 But why? 🤔 Water moves all litter dumped along our creeks, rivers, and watersheds all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, dumping it into our ocean. 💡 Every piece of trash carelessly thrown from a car has the potential to end up in our waterways every time it rains. Stormwater carries litter into storm drains, creeks, and rivers, all of which ultimately flow to the Gulf. 🤝 @texanbynature helps keep waterways less trashy with #TxWAC (Texas Water Action Collaborative). They are matching companies and funders to conservation projects that benefit our water resources, including river cleanups! We can all do our part—whether through litter cleanups, reducing personal plastic use, or supporting organizations like Texan by Nature. Let’s protect our Texas waters!

A new database of federal funding dedicated to wildfires found about 52% of the funds go toward direct response, dwarfing spending on research, mitigation and recovery. This is not a new story. How do we break the cycle to urgently and adequately address the wildfire crisis out West and in other parts of the U.S.? For our part, Forest Bridges promotes thoughtful and measured application of Western- and Indigenous-Science-based #ActiveConservationManagement, including thinning and #prescribedfire on western Oregon O&C dry forests and light-touch variable retention regeneration harvests on moist O&C forests to foster sustainable forest health and multi-species habitats and improve fire resilience where most needed. What do you think needs to be done to break the cycle of insufficient wildfire recovery, mitigation and recovery? Please join us in advancing Active Conservation Management on the 2.9 Million acres of BLM- and US Forest Service-managed O&C Lands of western Oregon by becoming a Friend of Forest Bridges today: https://lnkd.in/ggvYFMxK

You and I are the Californians you refer to. There are many of us who know how to manage open lands. Two of many problems that contribute to our failure are: 1) The wealth of the world is diverted to an oligarchy. 2) The oligarchy uses its wealth and controls the voice of the people by controlling the media and using it to misinform the public. A conservative general and president tempered by the need to save the world from fascist oligarchs, Eisenhower, warned us of this outcome by naming the "military-industrial-complex." Forest lands are an infrastructure resource that requires adaptive management. Our "trickle down" economy has been reformatted to continually divert society's wealth to oligarchs who pick and choose their causes to allow their wealth to "trickle down" to. Those funds could instead be used for college educations, research projects, and necessary peri-urban fire suppression retrofit infrastructure.
Why does California not understand how to manage its forests? 😓 There are three key aspects to preventing wildfires: 1.Thinning the forest. Trees can’t grow too densely, as fire spreads rapidly across treetops, especially when it’s windy. The underbrush and fallen leaves must also be cleared because fires often start from these dry piles. 2.Planting deciduous trees around communities. These trees contain less flammable resin compared to conifers like pine trees, which have a lot of resin and burn easily. 3.Avoid running powerlines through forested areas. If a tree catches fire and spreads to powerlines, the disaster becomes much worse. However, under the influence of the so-called “green movement,” California’s government insists on leaving forests untouched, letting them grow however they want without intervention. Looking across the U.S., major wildfires mostly happen in national or state parks. Meanwhile, privately managed parks and forests rarely face such disasters. Why? Because private owners follow expert advice and manage their forests carefully—they can’t afford to lose their property to a wildfire. California’s government needs to listen to professionals, not environmental activists. If only California’s leaders truly care for the people who put them in office... 😢 #CaliforniaFires #Wildfires #SoCalFire #LosAngeles #ForestManagement #California

David Elstone, RPF, GDBA on point, as always, on the growing risks of failing to address forest health through active, effective and truly sustainable forest management - and of failing to have real, fact-driven conversations about our #forests, #wildfire, and #publicsafety. Our forest ecosystems, northern and rural communities, and regional economies and infrastructure depend on us stepping up and getting this right. It's time for this conversation.
As we are saddened about the destruction in Jasper due to wildfire, it absolutely stuns me that there is continued resistance and even a lawsuit over the forest health restoration work in City of Vancouver ‘s Stanley Park which was damaged by an insect, the Hemlock Looper, a few years ago. The infestation killed a large number of western hemlock trees, which pose tangible public safety concerns as well as a potential hazard as prime fuel for a fire should one occur. Remember the trees being cut are already dead!!!!!!!!
