What #trends are you seeing in your volunteering work? In 2022, IAVE asked Dr Alice Chadwick El-Ali to synthesize global volunteering trends across three recent research papers from IAVE, Forum and UNV. She outlined: 1. Broadening recognition of what volunteering is and who volunteers are—from formal service delivery to traditional forms of mutual aid and self-help 2. Inclusive volunteering for social change—reducing barriers to voluntary participation from marginalized groups 3. Technology enabled volunteering 4. For young people growing up in underserved communities, opportunities to volunteer – and access the many benefits that volunteering can bring – are all too often limited or non-existent. What can decision makers do to level the playing field? Young people who took part in the Young Person’s Manifesto survey were clear with their ask: more clear routes into positive, constructive and accessible opportunities, and improved information about how they can get involved.
