🌟 Just wrapped up an inspiring and fast-paced 6-hour hackathon at the GenLab x AI Engineer World's Fair Hackathon: Amplifying Humans - Engineering & Agency in San Francisco! This event was a unique opportunity to collaborate, innovate, and create something truly meaningful in a short amount of time. 🛠️✨ I came across the registration for this hackathon during my trip to the AI Berkeley Hackathon and decided to dive in. For this hackathon, I teamed up with Nirupama Valluru and Bryan Sim, Ph.D., whom I met at the event. Despite not knowing each other beforehand, we quickly came together to create Persona—an AI journal designed to preserve personal histories in the digital world. Our vision for Persona is to allow users to log their daily experiences using audio, essentially creating an AI autobiography. You can ask Persona questions about past events in your life, and it will respond accurately, capturing the essence of your voice, including accents and slang. This makes the interaction more engaging and personal compared to simply reading through a written diary. The idea behind Persona is to help people pass down their life stories without losing them to time, making it easier than writing everything down and ensuring that their unique way of speaking is preserved. This would be especially valuable for preserving memories and stories for future generations, allowing them to interact with the AI in a way that feels like conversing with their loved ones. During the hackathon, we managed to develop a few endpoints that showcased our vision for Persona, highlighting its potential and setting the stage for future development. Participating in this hackathon was an incredible experience, filled with rapid brainstorming, coding sprints, and a shared passion for creating something impactful. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such talented teammates and to be part of an event that truly amplified human creativity and engineering prowess. It's like a chill, small-batch, locally-sourced alternative to YC, where you can either hang out as a member forever - or choose the VC-funded adventure. The -1 to 0 phase [0] they talk about at SPC is real, and it made a real difference for us to have a home at SPC. It takes a lot to quit your job and do something new, especially when it isn't entirely clear what you're doing. (1) Do it – take the leap! and (2) consider joining SPC. Though the core vision has remained the same, many of the important turns in our squiggle at Substrate (including the graph framework) came from those early days at SPC. After my workshop on Artificial Intelligence in research, preparing an innovation in business education workshop, and launching a new startup in the MedTech industry, it was time to diversify 🔄. So, I attended a Festival of Science and Fantasy in the Slovak city of Prešov, where I led a presentation/discussion on the legacy and philosophy of Star Trek: The Original Series 🚀🌌. The experience was wonderful; I met many interesting people from this vibrant community of enthusiasts ❤️🤝. Discussing Star Trek was both refreshing and eye-opening 🤯💡. This groundbreaking series utilized a futuristic and analogical approach to overcome societal barriers and tackle hard topics head-on. Many of its themes remain relevant today 🌍🔮.
