Today we celebrate International Day Of Play! This day is a global initiative designed to create awareness and address the underlying barrier to play faced by children and youth around the world. Play promotes well-being and happiness and yet many children say they don't enough time or access for play. We created Keep Playing Kids, our national not-for-profit, to help ensure children in our communities have access to play. 1% of JAM's adult sports league revenue is donated directly to Keep Playing Kids, ensuring that all KPK programs run for free. We are big believers in the power of PLAY for both children and adults. Let's make PLAY a priority every day! #InternationalDayOfPlay #KeepPlaying #JAMSports

In just over four weeks I am cycling 633km across Italy, raising money for Dallaglio RugbyWorks. DRW's missions is to ensure that young people who have been excluded from school are not excluded from society. On average, 160 young people are excluded from school each week. Once excluded, prospects for these young people are bleak, with only 4% achieving good GCSE grades, and 67% entering sustained education, employment or training compared to 96% of their non-excluded peers. This can be a pipeline to prison, with concerning statistics showing 63% of prisoners having been excluded from school. DRW work in a number of different settings both during term time and after school, where coaches lead small groups of 8-10 young people, using sport as a hook and mentorship as an anchor to develop their soft skills, as well as improve their physical & mental wellbeing. This, coupled with exposure to the work place through Career Taster Days, raises their aspirations and puts young people in a better position to enter sustained education, employment or training (EET) when they leave school. I would appreciate any support possible. https://lnkd.in/erMdxH_9

I’ve been playing the beautiful game of chess in the heart of Times Square for a continuous 45 hours and counting in an attempt to break a world record and raise $1m for the education of underserved children across Africa using the gift of chess. We are just a few hours from the moment we have all been waiting for. Yes, I’m tired. But that’s just one feeling. Gratitude is another feeling, which is more overwhelming than anything my body is telling me right now. We are going to cross the finish line. My partner, US National Master Shawn Martinez and I have played 170 games so far, and our incredible team of volunteers have made sure Martinez tastes jollof rice. I can feel the incredible love from different corners of the world, and my gratitude is beyond words. Let’s continue spreading the word until we hit the 58-hour and $1m milestone for the education of children with the gift of chess. Here’s a link to live stream and donate to the cause: https://lnkd.in/eiycN6tx Thank you! #ChessMarathonForChange #ChessInSlums #TheGiftOfChess

Chess is a game that requires different skills to become a strong player. For every game there is room to know the Skils for you to be able to the game. I will be explaining few skills I will love you to take a sip of water and read with me. 1. Pieces: Each piece has its own way of moving and capturing. The king is the most important piece, and you need to protect it. The queen is powerful,(Moves all round) bishops move diagonally, knights have a unique L-shaped move, rooks move horizontally and vertically, and pawns move forward but capture diagonally. 2. Openings: At the start of the game, you want to control the center of the board, develop your pieces, and keep your king safe. There are many different opening strategies and moves to choose from. 3. Tactics: Chess is full of tactical opportunities. You can use tactics like forks, pins, and skewers to capture your opponent's pieces or create threats. It's important to be alert and spot these tactical chances. 4. Positional Understanding: Understanding the position of your pieces and pawns is crucial. You want to control important squares, have good pawn structure, and coordinate your pieces effectively. This helps you create a strong position and plan your moves. 5. Endgame: The endgame is when there are fewer pieces on the board. It's important to know basic checkmating patterns, king and pawn endings, and how to use your king effectively. Endgame techniques can make a big difference in winning or drawing a game. 6. Analysis: After playing a game, it's helpful to analyze it to see what went well and what could be improved. Look for mistakes, missed opportunities, and areas where you can learn and grow as a player. Remember, practice is key to improving your chess skills. The more you play and study, the better you'll become. I hope this explanation helps, and if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask! ♟️🤓 I want to use this Moment to celebrate Tunde Onakoya for Breaking the Chess 🌍 Record.

Spending quality time with your children is an essential part of building a strong and lasting bond with them. 🪴Read together. Set aside time each day to read with your children. This is a great way to bond with them while also promoting literacy and a love of reading. 🪴Clean and decorate the house. Tidy up spaces together and let the children help you hang up items. Encourage them to create their decorations to display. 🪴Volunteer together in a local charity or organization. This is a great way to give back to the community and teach your children the importance of helping others. 🪴Play games. Whether it's a board game, card game, or outdoor game, playing games together is a great way to bond with your children. 🪴Explore the outdoors. Take a walk with your children and explore the beauty of nature during the holiday season. I hope this is helpful.🥰 Share! 😍👏 #earlyyearslearninginitiative #buildingbondwithyourchildren #parenting #parentingsupport #familygoals

Philanthropy Coordinator for the Jays Care Foundation- the Official Charitable Arm of the Toronto Blue Jays
We’re heading into the final stretch of 2023, with December and the holiday season right around the corner. However, our work at Jays Care Foundation does not pause for the 50,000+ children and youth that we serve in our programs. There are still a number of key issues facing Canadian youth in 2023- especially in schools. Traditionally, schools have been a place where young people access free sport and recreation programs. However, educators are stretched, and quality training and resources are no longer the norm. Additionally, simply accessing affordable sport affects 1 in 3 kids in Canada. This is why Jays Care runs Affiliate Schools programming. We want to make programming available for as many educators as possible, in order for children to be positively impacted by the value of sport, and the testimonial below serves as an excellent indicator of what sport can do. This is why Afflilate Schools are the focus of our year-end fundraising campaign. Donate to Jays Care Affiliate Schools, and your gift will be matched by an anonymous donor! Let’s break barriers and level the playing field for children and youth that need it most. #BlueJaysCommunity Link: ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/dVyNMdUe
