We create UK health data insights & marketing campaigns for consumer brands using NHS, economic and social data | I help companies empower their employees to overcome burnout through public speaking and training
Traditional medical career advice doesn't work any more. How many times have you been asked, "what speciality do you want to do?". It's always this and never nuanced beyond it! In medicine, we're expected to go all in at pursuing a single career goal: a CCT. And for some doctors, there's nothing wrong with this, and they are perfectly happy. However, the current climate, with increasing rates of burnout, debt, dissatisfaction about pay and working conditions, means that for many traditional medical career paths are not going to lead to longevity, sustainability, flexibility or even financial or job security. I know this because my inbox is full of medics worried about their future careers. They are worried they cannot sustain a medical career, they're worried they cannot practice in a way that fulfils them, and they're worried about money. Traditional medical career advice or paths just don't work for this ever growing group of medics. But- the good news is that it's not a stark choice between staying on a traditional path, or leaving altogether. There is so much that can be done in the middle space, and I'm proof of it! I'd love to hear the best and worst career advice you've ever been given in the comments! #nhs #doctors #medicine
