As Black women, we have experienced the trauma of our intellect, leadership, and person being constantly challenged and erased.
Let's call it what it is: Misogynoir.
Misogynoir, as coined by Dr. Moya Bailey, is defined as the ways anti-Black and misogynistic representation shape broader ideas about Black women, particularly in visual culture and digital spaces.
👉🏾 The negative impact of misogynoir across all sectors, not just digital media, has continued to be detrimental to the livelihood of Black women.
👉🏾 In public and medical health, this concept is crucial as it underscores the need to address not only the physical health disparities that Black women face but also the mental and emotional toll of misogynoir.

#Education plays a crucial role in the empowerment and preparation of Black youth for the #GreenJobs of the future. Green jobs are emerging across industries, and we must ensure that Black students are equipped to contribute to this necessary shift, so they are not left behind in accessing these opportunities. Together, we can build a sustainable future. This starts with climate education in the curriculum.

One thing I haven’t done well (as principal) is influencing staff to focus on their individual impact.
What I mean is - what effect size impact are they (teachers) having on their grades. How do we get staff to embrace this? What can I do to have staff excited about how much gain, their students are making?
We’ve had a quantifiable measure since Hattie’s seminal work (2007) and a formula (an effect size) to measure this.
What are the barriers to schools delivering on this?
At yesterday’s Victorian Principal’s Conference, there was a lot of focus on what works (little has changed in what we have known for 20 years).
I think the question should be - what are we doing to measure (and celebrate) what we already know works?
Albany graduates, get to know the people who will be on stage to celebrate your day and the special messages they have for you!
Christi Shorkey, lecturer from the school of human services:
"I imagine many of you did not think you would ever get to this day but here you are! No doubt you had to conquer many hurdles and persevere to get to this point! I hope you can take today to reflect on your achievements, to celebrate and to let today serve as a steppingstone for your continued success."

Why do so few of South Africa’s young research stars (NRF P-rated) become global leaders in their science (A-rated)? Here for the first time is an in-depth study of 36 P-rated researchers that explains why. Work ethic, smart strategy, and international networks are only three of the reasons. And why do so few black P-rated researchers become A-rated? One of the main reasons is the pressure to take up management positions such as deans and heads of departments for purposes of ‘transformation’. The findings have implications for managing the P-rated or prestigious researchers in their early careers and for retaining top black scholars in active research programmes at least through the mid-career years. https://buff.ly/4cARjWg
