🚀📚 As we wrap up the first intense three weeks at the helm of our new venture designed to empower educators, I've gathered some invaluable insights as a first-time product manager and co-founder alongside my incredible wife, Amina. Yes, working with your spouse has its unique challenges and rewards – blending professional and personal communication has been an enlightening journey! 👨🏫👩💻 Diving into product management headfirst meant I was bound to stumble, and stumble I did – missteps in translating our deep understanding of the teaching profession (shoutout to my wife's nearly five years in the classroom!) into clear communication for different audiences like developers, designers, and, crucially, our users. However, these early mistakes were blessings in disguise. They pushed us to refine our approach and sharpen our message, ensuring we connect more effectively with everyone involved. My friend Nick gave me this idea, reminding me that even though everyone knows, and loves, Fullsend, a little context couldn't hurt 😏 According to the org chart, I am Director of Product at Fullsend Solutions, which translates to: I work with (mostly) early-stage companies and Fullsend’s senior developers to take startups from ideation to production. Before I met Dick and Sawyer (Fullsend’s cofounders), I worked at Accenture- leading small, strategy teams, to large-scale ✨ digital transformations ✨ … but mostly building things. My goal has always been to ship products that people will love. At Fullsend, we focus on bringing quality products to market as quickly as possible. Caring about our client’s problems as much as they do is what makes this journey fun. And personal. Outside of work, I love to surf (although wish I had more to show for it), ski, and play sports where you swing things. If you’re in the LA area and share similar interests, hit me up! I’ve got some BIG and EXCITING news to share (well… I think it’s big and exciting 😂) 🚀 The Big News: I’m shortly going to be leaving my role as Chief Product Officer at Vypr. I’ve had the most amazing time setting up the product team, creating the product strategy, replatforming and rebuilding the entire product, while also working with some supremely talented folks. I leave the team in great hands with Rihan Farman, Louise Nicholas, and Philippa Peasland leading the charge. I’ll still be involved with the business and will be their biggest cheerleader from the sidelines 🙌 🌟 The Exciting News: I’m co-founding my own tech startup! Anyone who knows me knows it’s been my lifelong ambition to do my own thing, and I’m jumping in headfirst with a soon-to-be-announced venture. It’s insanely exciting, a tad overwhelming, and hugely scary too. I’ve already got Figma, Visual Studio, and GCP all set up, and I’m running at 1,000 miles an hour. Watch this space! 🚀 While diving into my new adventure, I’m also picking up fractional, advisory, and non-exec work. I’ve got a few opportunities lined up and have capacity for a couple more. The speakers were beyond inspiring, and their words left a lasting impression on how I perceive growth, innovation, and perseverance in the tech industry. 🚀 Dennis Crowley - Founder of Foursquare shared how passion and emotion are the fuel for consistency in our work. His advice to care deeply about what you do resonated with me, as it’s this genuine connection that drives us to stay dedicated even during the most challenging times. 🔥Tariq Ahmed - First Engineer AppLovin gave a remarkable piece of advice that truly struck a chord: "Chaos is a ladder." Being able to adapt in uncertain situations and turning those moments into opportunities is what defines success. It’s about persevering even when the path ahead seems unclear. 💡 Julian Alvarez 🚀 - Ex-Meta and CEO of Wisdolia reminded us that "The only real failure is the failure to learn." Mistakes are not setbacks, but stepping stones toward growth. His perspective on learning from failures, just like Edison’s famous quote about finding ways that don’t work, inspires a mindset of continuous improvement. 🔍 Hamza Ali - CEO of Olostep emphasized the importance of taking initiative. His encouragement to be proactive, voice your opinions, and seize opportunities that others might overlook is something I plan to carry forward in my journey. 🌐💪This week has undoubtedly sharpened my technical skills, especially through the Headstarter mock interviews. My second mock interview with Aidan Ouckama's AI was a significant improvement from the first, and it’s all thanks to the incredible support and learning environment provided by Headstarter . I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of this experience and to have learned from such inspiring leaders. I look forward to applying these lessons as I continue to grow in the field of software engineering. It's hard to believe now that it has been 5 years since I embarked on this incredible adventure at Mindtickle! Back then, we were an unheard startup fueled by a Series B round. Today, we're a thriving unicorn with over 600 talented minds on board. Talk about a growth curve! My journey at Mindtickle has been a masterclass in versatility and learning. I started as an Implementation Manager, ensuring every customer maximized the Mindtickle platform's potential. I then had the opportunity to build a revenue-generating tech services team from the ground up. This role demanded wearing many hats and navigating intricate systems – all to empower our amazing sales team (because, let's be honest, selling is hard!). However, my passion for product innovation led me to transition into Product Management. This shift has opened doors to a wealth of knowledge across the B2B SaaS and enablement landscape. Throughout this incredible ride, I've been fortunate to learn from and collaborate with a team of exceptional individuals. These colleagues have become not just mentors, but also lifelong friends. Wow, what a week! 🌟 I can’t believe how much I’ve learned and grown already in just two weeks! 🚀 As I wrap up my second week at Headstarter, I’m feeling more inspired than ever after attending the Pathways to Tech event, where I heard from some of the most inspiring minds in the industry. Here’s what stood out to me: Dennis Crowley, Founder of Foursquare, stressed the importance of understanding and engaging with your user base. Understanding your audience and building a strong community around your product is just as crucial as the technology behind it. Tariq Ahmed, First Engineer at AppLovin, spoke about navigating challenges. 💪 His story highlighted the value of resilience and adaptability in the startup world. Embracing challenges and navigating the ups and downs is key to achieving success. Julian Alvarez 🚀, Former SWE at Meta and CEO of Wisdolia, emphasized the importance of embracing a mindset of experimentation and iteration in development. His insights underscored the need to stay adaptable and open to change, continually refining approaches based on feedback and results. Prioritizing well-being and managing stress effectively are crucial for balancing technical challenges with personal growth and enjoyment. Hamza Ali, CEO of Olostep, emphasized that practical experience and tangible results often outweigh formal degrees and cultivating a proactive, self-starting attitude is crucial in fast-paced environments. He noted that being able to independently identify and solve problems is highly valued, and staying adaptable and committed to continuous learning is essential. But that’s not all! I had an incredibly cool experience doing my second mock interview with Aidan Ouckama's AI. It was phenomenal—it not only helped me solve problems but also prepared me for real-world interviews where communication is just as crucial as problem-solving. 🗣️ I was blown away by how advanced the technology is and how detailed the feedback was. This experience has drastically improved my technical interview skills. 🔥 A massive shoutout to the Headstarter team, especially Yasin Ehsan 🚀 and Faizan Ahmed, for putting together such an amazing event and connecting us with such inspiring speakers! 🙌 Your hard work is truly appreciated.
