Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality of all gynecologic malignancies This is partly because signs and symptoms are non-specific, including abdominal bloating and pain, urinary urgency, and early satiety. This delays diagnosis leading to later stages which are harder to treat. The high mortality rates is not because it’s unresponsive to initial treatment with surgery and chemotherapy In fact, most patients with advanced disease (~80%) achieve an objective response to chemotherapy! Unfortunately, 85% of these patients will have recurrence after primary treatment, with each recurrence becoming less and less responsive to treatment Preventing recurrence with maintenance therapies, like PARP inhibitors, and improving recurrence therapies is vital to improve survival --- 📌 When you’re ready, the Enjoy Learning Oncology (ELO) program can accelerate your growth in oncology. ‘Studies reveal that #GLP-1 #medications could cut the risk of obesity-related cancers by a fifth.’ (The Times, 2024) Previous research recognised that #obesity #treatment with #bariatric #surgery also reduced the risk of obesity-related cancers (see ref), however, GLP-1 medications show a greater reduction in risk, even with less overall #weight loss. Presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference in Chicago, these new findings show promise for incorporating GLP-1 drugs into #cancer treatment protocols. 'GLP drugs are very promising and we certainly hope someday they will be a tool in cancer treatment. But before we can say that, we need rigorous clinical trials to test them,' said oncologist Dr. Sherry Shen. #LiverCancer is a serious and often aggressive form of #cancer that begins in the cells of the liver. The most common type is #HepatocellularCarcinoma, which typically starts in #hepatocytes, the primary cells of the liver. Liver cancer can be difficult to detect in its early stages because symptoms often do not appear until the disease has progressed. Factors that increase the risk of developing liver cancer include chronic #HepatitisB or #HepatitisC infections, #cirrhosis, heavy #alcohol consumption, and exposure to #aflatoxins. Symptoms may include weight loss, loss of appetite, #jaundice, and abdominal pain. Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving outcomes, and options may include surgery, #livertransplant, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies. It's crucial to highlight that liver cancer is one of the fastest-growing cancer diagnoses in the world. This makes #LiverCancerAwarenessMonth an essential time to raise awareness and promote early detection. #Menagen #Pharma #CancerAwareness #HealthAwareness #CancerResearch #LiverHealth #Oncology #CancerTreatment

Exciting news in the fight against brain cancer! A recent Phase II clinical trial using the radiopharmaceutical 177Lu-Dotatate has shown significant progress in extending progression-free survival rates for patients with refractory meningiomas. Key findings include: Nearly 80% of patients remained progression-free after six months. This far exceeds the 26% benchmark from prior studies. 88.9% of patients had overall survival one-year post-treatment. With four infusions every eight weeks, this theranostic approach could represent a new, more effective option for treating aggressively growing meningiomas, where standard treatments like surgery and radiation have limitations. This therapy offers hope for those facing limited options, demonstrating both effectiveness and safety. The IMPLEMENT study identified gaps in how both urologists and oncologists view first-line treatment intensification for metastatic castrate-sensitive prostate cancer. Additionally, there were also a number of differing beliefs, including whether there is enough clinical support. #OncologyResearch #ProstateCancer #HealthCareBarriers

CEO & Co-founder, Combat Medical | Transforming cancer treatments through world-leading hyperthermic technologies.
Let’s have a quick look at clinical trials into novel therapy alternatives to radical cystectomy for BCG-unresponsive non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. 1. Valrubicin This is an intravesical chemotherapy agent, and until recently was the only FDA-approved agent for post-BCG treatment. It was approved in 1998 but not commonly used in real-world practice as it was not widely available and its efficacy was suboptimal. “Of 90 patients, 19 (21%) had a complete response, including 7 who remained disease-free at the last evaluation, with a median follow-up of 30 months.” (Steinberg et al, The Journal of Urology, 2000). 3moYou described to a T the exact situation that happened to my mom three years ago. I still remember giving her advice on heartburn and bloating remedies. The recurrence is the killer, but it's great that there are increasingly available things to help with that. Thank you for sharing!!
