In the world of Workplace Safety, having a written safety program isn't just a formality... it's required by OSHA and when used correctly, it's an effective tool to reduce injuries. Now, whether you're in Minnesota and call it your AWAIR Program, A Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction Program (AWAIR), or you're in California and call it your Injury and Illness Prevention Program, -or another state and have another name for it,- the goal remains the same: keep your employees safe. But here's where most companies fail... having that safety manual in place is one thing; but making sure it's put into practice and kept up to date is a whole other ball game.. As we embrace the summer season, it's crucial to remember the risks associated with elevated temperatures and extreme heat, especially for our dedicated outdoor workers. ☀️👷♀️👷♂️ Heat-related illnesses can be serious, and in some cases, fatal. These include conditions like heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and dehydration. Under OSHA’s general duty clause, all employers have a duty to provide a safe working environment, This includes having a safety program for your workers. This program should include a comprehensive Heat Illness Prevention Plan. Such a plan should include regular rest breaks in shaded areas, easy access to water, training for employees to recognize the symptoms of heat-related illnesses, and protocols for responding to possible heat-related incidents. Last week, President Biden announced that the Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), is proposing a new rule to mandate that all employers have a heat illness prevention plan in place. This would include the adoption of two heat index thresholds, factoring in both humidity and temperature. This new rule is yet to be finalized. However, OSHA has already stepped-up heat related inspections under an emphasis program that targets workplaces considered high risk. Here at Mantis Innovation, we prioritize safety over everything else, and already have a heat illness prevention plan in place. We also encourage everyone with workers exposed to these hazards to implement a similar program, whether the newly proposed standards are codified or not. Remember, a good safety plan is no accident. Let's ensure we're all doing our part to keep our workers safe this summer. Share if you agree! 👍💪 #HeatSafety #WorkplaceSafety #SummerSafety #HeatIllnessPrevention #SafetyPays
