Finding Balance: Embracing Moments Outside Work Today was a special day – I met my daughter for a coffee at our favourite local spot. As I sat across from her, sipping on a warm cup of coffee, I couldn't help but reflect on the journey that led us to this moment. Throughout my career, taking time out during the workday for anything non-work related, always carried a weight of guilt. The demands of the professional world often made it challenging to prioritise personal moments, especially those with my children. However, over the last six months, a significant shift has occurred. The guilt that once accompanied breaks for personal matters has dissipated. In fact, I no longer feel remorse when taking the much-needed time out to be with my children. It's a realisation that life is about balance – a delicate equilibrium where the scales sometimes tip towards family and other times toward the work that I love. Today's coffee date with my daughter is more than just a pleasant moment. It's a small win in the grand scheme of life, a reminder that achieving balance is a victory worth celebrating. For those who work for themselves, what do you love the most about doing so? On the flip side, I wonder what those working for someone else yearn for. Is it more control over your time, the freedom to pursue personal passions, or simply the ability to be present for your families without the constant tug of professional responsibilities? Life is a constant negotiation of priorities, and the choices we make shape our experiences. Today, as I savour this small win, I invite you to reflect on what you love most about your work, whether for yourself or someone else, and what dreams or moments you wish you could indulge in more frequently. After all, finding fulfilment is not just about professional success but also about relishing the personal victories that make the journey worthwhile. #balancedlife #wellbeingatwork #familybusiness #smallbusiness #buildingsurveying
