It has officially been one year with Harrington Process Solutuons. Quoting my dad about six months ago, “Chris, I’m so happy for you. You have paid some -heavy dues- to end up in a place that values what you do.” Today, I put in an 11 hour bruiser of a day and -loved it-. I got to collaborate with two rock star colleagues on something a little out of my comfort zone. I got to invest in at least four up-and-coming-pump-people. I intervened on one application that would have gone sideways without my experience. I got one “to do” item for tomorrow that leverages 25+ years of being a pump guy. Deep Breath. The trick to this stuff is decline the invitation for self-immolation when the value you add isn’t what the organization needs. And decline the invitation of “dig Me” ego gratification when the organization groks what you do. Instead, accept the invitation to express gratitude. Accept the invitation to say “thanks” to parents, professors. mentors, employers, and customers who showed you what good looks like. Express thanks that there’s an organization out there that needs what you offer. Because United Airlines agrees. That as a Premier -Silver- traveler last year… I’m kind of a big deal. #TeamHarrington

Small step at a time...

I heard something the other day and before today I would never have given it a second though. The question was asked, “what is the worste thing you ever did.” The response shook me. “I became important. I did such a good quality job that I became important.” All my career to date all I wanted was to make a difference. Do such a good job that the company would appreciate and when it came time for promotion etc it would be without question. To instill the trust that I can get the job done. To me this was the conerstone of who I was. Work with everyone, help everyone, see everyone as your customer and remember the customer is always right. Then it happened. I was seen. I became trusted and now important to what I do and some days I don’t know what to do with that. Some days I sit here thinking how do I do it now. How do I get this done on time and under budget. Trust in my colleagues, trust my team. That is how you do it. Ask the hard question. Talk to them, be clear on your needs and timelines and then trust them to do what they do

Thursday Thoughts: Never forget to celebrate the small wins. All too often I myself was congratulated for an accomplishment, and it was almost met with resistance...FROM ME! "Could have been this", "should have been that", "hope it grows to be more". Altezas recently completed its FIRST contract with a company, delivering an IT project that will likely, almost certainly result in more business. My first thought was "how big can we g....STOP! We landed a contract less than 60 days into EXISTING, let me celebrate that accomplishment, soak it in and cherish it. Now take a deep breath and keep going, seek the next small win.
