“Policy VS Personality” Answer this question: what is better? “Policy or Personality” When considering "Policy vs. Personality," policy is generally more important for sustainable and effective governance. Policies provide a structured approach to solving problems, ensuring consistency, fairness, and long-term benefits for society. While personalities can inspire and mobilize people, they are transient and can lead to unpredictable outcomes. A focus on policy helps to institutionalize good practices and ensures that progress is not solely dependent on individual leaders.

The Importance of Culture – Calm is Contagious Listen to Rorke Denver (former Navy SEAL) talk about how leaders can build culture by exhibiting the behaviors that demonstrate and inspire others to live, work, and serve by certain values. As leaders and managers, expect your teams to mimic your behavior. A culture, a set of values, a deal, a solution…is only as good as its implementation. Keep it together. Stay focused on completing the mission at hand. everyone wants to be liked and bosses are people too. the workplace is analogous to a family where the kids are charlie brown & lucy and the bosses are “wha-wha-wha-wha”. they are not aware, not feeling, not in the know, and not human. perhaps the gap between bosses and ourselves is our lack of a shared experience and perspective…. ? we’d like to hear experiences from those who crossed the divide for the first time from staff to leadership and the realizations you may have gained, OR from seasoned leaders who have had to navigate the conspiracy theories. #CONSENSISM #USWE #JOINTHEMOVEMENT #THEFUTUREISUS #IFEMPLOYEESCOULDTALK #Transparency #EmployeeEngagement #Leadership #Innovation #DEIB #WorkCulture #HumanWorkplace #EmployeeFeedback #Authenticity

1️⃣ Always do the right thing This is our company’s first core value. A lot of people claim to live by this, but often it is just lip service. While this value may seem straightforward and obvious, it’s often easier said than done. Would you still do the right thing in every instance instead of taking the convenient or easy way, even if you knew nobody would ever find out? It means prioritizing honesty over comfort, ethical choices over convenience, and transparency over shortcuts. If you always do the right thing, you never have to worry about those wrong choices catching up to you.
"You know what to do. Just do the right thing.” Former president of national restaurant group Chart House, Shawn Holder (also Shay Hughes’ dad) lives by this mantra, which he also credits with his personal and professional success, as well as the success of the growth of the Chart House. From humble beginnings as a dishwasher at Chart House, Shawn rose to president of the company through his immense personal drive, thoughtful leadership style and genuine desire to see those around him succeed. Our first core value at Hughes Marino is to “always do the right thing,” and Shay is proud to say that this value stemmed from her dad’s example he set for himself and everyone around him. If you don´t know how to manage conflict, you cannot be a leader. There are not only courses but institutes which teach conflict management all over the world. What I now wonder is whether they also teach conflict management across different cultures… When I caught up with Yang Liu, the award winning designer and author of multiple books, one of the points she mentioned about her growing up years between countries was constant comparisons. An example of those comparisons was about how conflict is handled in the east and the west. As a teenager, she was often confused on how to handle situations and over time she learnt….the method of fusion. Join me on this journey of not only comparisons but also of celebration of diversity in this interesting dialogue “Between the East and the West”. The link to the website is here and the various links to Spotify, Apple, etc. can be found on the top right of the home page. Home | East & West (https://lnkd.in/eQ2s2jQb) Enjoy! And do tell me how you handle conflict! #conflict #managemnt #leadership #east #west #diversity

🎸 Main Track: "Once in a Lifetime" - Talking Heads (1981) As we edge closer to 50, this Talking Heads classic prompts us to reflect on our journey and the choices that shape our leadership path. Leadership lesson: Success isn't just about accumulation; it's about conscious decision-making and regularly reassessing our direction. Key insights: • Periodically step back and evaluate your leadership trajectory • Question whether you're leading by choice or by inertia • Recognize that the 'same as it ever was' mentality can be a trap • Embrace change and new perspectives as you grow • Understand that true leadership is about more than external markers of success But here's the existential question: How often do you ask yourself, "How did I get here?" in your leadership journey? 🤔 Reflect: When was the last time you made a significant change in your leadership approach? What prompted it? Share a moment when reassessing your path led to a breakthrough in your career or leadership style. Let's discuss how we can lead more intentionally, ensuring our journey to 50 and beyond is one of conscious growth and purpose. #50for50 #IntentionalLeadership #TalkingHeadsWisdom https://lnkd.in/gCGU_C3N

Each April prior to the pandemic, I competed in a 200-mile relay race with 11 other (sweaty) people. Since on most days I'm a business strategist, I couldn't help but see the event and its logistical challenges as a metaphor for organizations in the race for success. Here's the first of three articles the relay inspired — a key aspect of People Strategy it's worth having 200 miles to think about :) #peoplestrategy #growthstrategy #businessplanning #capacitybuilding #leadership
